he was going to Tennessee because he was going to be in the NBA in a year, and they had the best one year plan.

And a bunch of sixpackers thought I was crazy when I suggested we didn't want any part of this three ring circus.

guys pan out makes me glad we havent had to deal with them @ State. sure, they are a one-man team the year they're in school, but when they're gone, as a general rule, the remaining team is in the crapper because they never really had to play the year before(See: State, Kansas). i know that the team gets the one year boost, but who on here really wanted to watch the Jamont show for another season? without Rhodes, teams wouldve clamped on him & he wouldnt have given any of the other players much of a chance to get involved.
its good to see Jarvis getting involved on the offensive end this year.
there have been several guys on State's team in the somewhat recent past who couldve probably developed into an NBA player, but they saw the $$$ and dipped early...

I remember specifically Bulldog Backer chiding me for referring to the lad as "Scottie Flopson".

Of course in typical Backer fashioin, he was right on the Scottie Hater bandwagon when he decided to take his "talents" elsewhere.

What can I say? You were right. First time for everything.

Looks like Stans missing out on him wasn't the worst thing that ever happened.

I did chastise you for calling Scotty Hopson "Scottie Flopson". I will grant you that. He is playing the 2 guard at Tennessee, and should be playing the 3 spot, but Tyler Smith is there. However, I did NOT get on any "Scotty haters bandwagon." I was disappointed he didn't honor his commitment, but it was obviously his mistake.

none of the STansbury haters who constantly talk about his turnover in the program have anything bad to say about this or their great coach Bruce Pearl. Sometimes....you just get players who are bad apples.

That's a pretty horrible comparison: State and Kansas. I'll take a team full of freshmens following a national championship any day.

I believe he was referring to Kansas State, post-Beasley. You know...State, Kansas...the whole "last name first, first name last" thing.

...his problem is that he's playing the 2 instead of the 3? With that kind of inside knowledge, I would expect you to know that those two positions are virtually interchangeable, especially in UT's system.

Because if KState is in the crapper, then so are we. Our records and RPI are strikingly similar.

What 1 and done players did Kansas have in the last few years even?

Chalmers?...3 years
Rush?...3 years
D Jackson?...4 years
Kaun?...4 years
Robinson?...4 years
Wright?...2 years
Arthur?...2 years

or were you really meaning K-State? Beasley is the greatest thing that happened to that program in 20 years. Beasley and Walker took that program to a new level. They not only made an impact in the 1 year they played, their success has helped the program recruit. ****, they helped take the program to the NCAA tournament for the first time in the last 12 seasons. basically, without them, they would have posted yet another year of not making the NCAA tournament. lucky 13 without them.

who currently sit at 11-5. Their 11 wins? Get ready to be impressed, Coach34's head would explode if these were our wins.

Florida A&M
SE Missouri State
Emporia State
Cleveland State
Oakland
Southern Mississippi
Gardner Webb
Centenary
Wagner
Idaho State
Chicago State

I'll go out on a limb and say that will be 13 years out of 14 outside the tourney. But they had that one year.

Coach's argument (one of them) is that Stansbury loads up on the crappy non-conference wins to pad the win total, which is exactly what KState has done. Another part of his argument is that Stansbbury has a bad record against BCS conference teams the traditional power conference teams (is that easier for you to understand?), which is also what KState has done this year with losses to Kentucky, Iowa and Oregon.

Edit to say that when I re-read yous post, I interpret it differently, and maybe I am restating what you said. At first glance it read like he would be complaining about the schedule regardless of outcome, but I think you mean the quality of the wins. Razor thin difference I guess.

First of all, unless if I missed something, he hasn't flopped, in fact I think he's been pretty damn good for a freshmens. Not one-and-done good, but good still. Second, are you saying that if he wanted to transfer to State, that you wouldn't want him??

...is that he thought he was a one year and go pro kind of player. Some folks hyped him as that, and he probably believes that about himself, too. When you look at it that way, he's been a disappointment so far at UT. Big time.

You shouldn't expect Backer to know anything about basketball. That's one of the dumbest things he's ever posted. And that's saying something.

...what makes you a <17> expert. The only reason you criticized him was because he didn't go to your precious UK. Yes, he is a 3 player in college, at least until he gets quicker. He is 6-6, close to 6-7. He hasn't physically matured yet. He is not a loser, just going through freshman growing pains.

I have had my eye on Hopson since he left us during the recruiting process. I can say that he is an ok Freshman SEC player especially in the early going. He could still be a major star in coming years.

If, however, he thinks he should be in the NBA next year, he is wrong. If he is a ***** in the locker room or his mom is blowing up the coach's phone, like someone here insinuated, then we definitely countdown the months to his bust.

He's averaging 8.6 points in 20.2 minutes per game. That's more efficient than anyone on our team except Jarvis. He also leads TN in 3pt percentage. He's a solid player and will be a star in a couple years if he stays at TN.
Of course he was overhyped, any time there's a Derrick Rose-type player people start immediately looking for the "next" Derrick Rose, when in reality those players only come along several years apart.
No, he's not as good as he probably thinks he is, but saying he "sucks" is stupid. My money is that he has a greater chance at the NBA than anyone on our team barring Jarvis.

....that "he sucks" is a harsh judgement. He's a division I player. Clearly, he's not as good as the hype that came with him.

"More efficient than anyone on our team except Jarvis"????? Uh, no. Not even close. I won't say he sucks but Bost, Ravern, Stewart, and maybe even Phil Turner are playing just as well if not better than Hopson.

I criticized him because I had actually seen him play - multiple times. As opposed to you, who's first time seeing him play will be tonight - with the exception of some meaningless all-star game. I wasn't upset he didn't go to Kentucky. He practically begged Gillispie and Pitino to take him but anybody who had seen him play knew he couldn't play for those two. When you watch tonight - and you better watch closely because his minutes are fading - here is what you will see. You will see a guy with enormous athletic skill standing around on both ends of the floor. A couple of times he will get the notion to use his incredible talents and take it to the rim. That's when you will see what all of the hype was about. Otherwise, he will look lost on the perimeter and launch threes that will threaten bodily damage to anybody sitting on the first three rows. And he won't do that because he's suffering from growing pains. He'll do that because that is what he's always done. Even when he was the best player on the floor in HS. He did an interview with a Knoxville TV station the other day and acknowledged that his reputation was one of standing around and playing soft. And how has he reacted to that admission? By standing around and playing soft. I think ultimately what will happen will be he will finish out the year at UT and declare for the draft. That has always been the plan. But he should sue whoever came up with the rule to make a kid go to college before going to the NBA. Because that rule has cost him millions. College basketball has a way of exposing players like Hopson. Basketball fans in the SEC are finding out what the rest of us who had actually seen him "compete" already knew.

i caused with the wording on that. yes, i did mean K-State. not MSU & Kansas.

what i was alluding to was the circus that would've ensued if Monta Ellis had come for a year. you get the one spectacular year, then a letdown the following year.
i like watching bulldog basketball & make it to games whenever they play within a few hours of here (not real often, but i make a few every year).
i'm not saying a one & done guy wouldnt help the team reach the land of milk and honey (sweet 16), but it just isnt what makes a several year run of getting deep into the tourney possible...

Not because of talent or lack thereof, but rather this guy was the typical player that doesn't mesh well with Stansbury. I was glad when he jumped ship because all he would have created here was havoc. When a player is this deluded, selfish, arrogant, etc, you just can't do anything with him. Rick, in particular, struggles with that type of player.

If Hopson had come to state we would have the same problem we had with J-Money.
We would not be playing team ball, would be Scottie's team, he would tell Stans what he wants and would get it.
