We're not making the tournament this year because of many reasons. And anyone who tells you otherwise is an idiot. So the question becomes, what direction does the program take, or more importantly, what does Byrne do?<div>
</div><div>If you look at next year, we lose Jarvis and Barry. So we've got Dee, Turner, Kodi, Ravern, Osby, Lewis, Riek, Benock. We also get Beckham, Bailey and Shaun Smith back along with a JUCO guard. So basically we're getting the same team back. And if I'm basing next year's team on that roster then all I see is the same problems this year and last years team had. And I don't know how any rational person can expect another year of experience will somehow improve their level of play. Our team lacks toughness, discipline, someone who can take care of the ball, someone who can create their own shot. And from that group I just don't see it.</div><div>
</div><div>Stans will have one more year to fix it and he'll be replaced. Unless there happens to be a meltdown of Croom proportions this year.</div>

are you on crack? We lose the best defensive player in the country. We also lose our best perimeter defender and a guy that has the ability to score at times.

We are going to be brutal next year.

after we don't make the tourney next year he is fired.

And really...if we get Sidney back, Stans can just roll the ball out like he is doing now and we should AT LEAST make the tourney.

with Varnado gone and assuming Sidney is not around. If you remove Varnado from this team right now you rip the heart out of our defense because with Jarvis in there we can play better defense on the perimeter because we know he can clean up the middle if people drive by us. So if we don't make the tournament this year then we are almost guaranteed not to make it next year.

Stans does come back. We have the same players now as last year so you would assume we would have improved at least a little. Bailey is out, but every other significant player came back and we are worse than last year

Yall have no freaking clue what we are going to do next year. After losing Rhodes, Gordon, and Hansbrough before last season most everyone was saying the same thing but then we went on to have a pretty decent season. Things change from year to year.
I will say this: If we do not make the NCAAs this season then Kirby and Cunningham are going to need to go job hunting and the seat should start warming for Stansbury.

the 09 wasn't as good as the 08 team just like you would expect.

And the 11 team won't be as good as the 10 team b/c of these losses.

There is a very real chance that after next year we will have gone 3 straight years without earning a bid to the NCAA tournament with our season performance.

Prior to last season most everyone on here said an NIT bid would be the best case scenario for that team. No one thought we would be better. There is enough crap to throw at Stans right now without ignoring that fact. For the record, I don't think we will be very good next year but as last year proved sometimes we can surprise as much as we disappoint.
My only point was that many predicted us to be around 15-15 last year and we ended up 23-11. It was only after we went to the NCAAs and lost that people said the season was a disappointment.
That does not change the fact that Stansbury has done a **** job so far this year.

we were an NIT team last year. And I really didn't have that big of a problem with it except the losses to Charlotee and San diego. My original point was that we will be worse next year after we lose JV and BS. you said that wasn't necessarily the case and cited the 08 year losses of CR and JG compared to 09. But that's a prime example of a team being worse the year after it loses its best players.
That supports the idea that we will be worse next year.

Teams do generally get worse after losing their best players. I am just saying that I don't think we will necessarily suck. Not to sound like Bill Clinton, but it depends on your definiton of "suck" I guess. I could see us being 19-11 or so next season moreso than say 12-18.

if we don't make the tourney this year, I don't see how we can make it next year.
