Honestly, if Tyler can do what Wayne did his freshman year then I would be happy.

Just control the game and don't do anything to lose the game. Use his legs if he has to. Don't try to do too much.

That's all I expect. I wouldn't put a whole lot of pressure on the young man.

Interchange the adjective with whatever you want. My point is I hope T. Russell is the best damn thing since Bryne came to Starkville.

I'm really looking forward to the Russell era. I think he will do great things for MSU and win us a whole lot of football games. I believe it is more important for us to sign a high profile QB next year than this year, but obviously you want to get the best talent if it's available. He can just do a little more than Madkin did with a great running attack and a solid defense then I will be more than satisfied.

we run a more pass friendly offense than we did under Jackie, and Dan is better at developing a QB than Jackie.

I'm expecting 13-15 TD passes from Tyler.

and you can expect Relf to be improved. So, despite whatever happens with this year's class, we are upgrading at that position.

We have to also be effective at the other 21 positions. [Gotta have talent that can be coached and developed]

It's still a team sport.

Guten tag.

But, I still think we will win our games through the defense, special teams and the running game.

Yes, our offense is more pass friendly now. We have coaches who can develop QBs and WRs. That's all well and good. I believe we can afford to let Tyler develop more slowly.

The defense should be good. Special teams should be good. I expect two or three of the RBs to step up handle the running game. There is no need for Tyler to try to be All-World right now.

Well we know we have a solid group up front on the o-line that is intact from last year, and that is pretty rare these days in the SEC.

we just have to be less predictable on offense. How in the hell Ole Miss couldnt guard one of 2 runners (relf and dixon) with 11 men will FOREVER confuse me. That game was right out of the twilight zone. If we are still as predictable as we were in the egg bowl we wont win more than 5 games next fall.

Tyler has got to loosen up some linebackers and safeties with the threat of the pass and we HAVE to hit some receivers more than 25 yards down field if we are to turn 5 wins into 7-8. To me, it really has to do with how we utilize Green at TE and find a real deep threat.

The days of dixon torunning over DL's and Lb's to make 5 yards are gone. At least for now.

having a QB that can throw downfield we should be able to better utilize guys like Leon Berry, O'Neal Wilder and Marcus Green- and all of them should be improved as they develop. I also expect Bumphis to play a larger role next year, and with a QB that can throw downfield, we can also utilize him downfield as well as in the screen game, and I also expect Bumphis to play our "Percy Harvin" position by running the ball more than he did this past year. We also still have Relf, who will be important for us next year as well.

I also think that LaDarius Perkins is going to be a special running back for us as well. His highlight film is unreal. If he played at South Panola and not some small school outside of Greenville, he would've been Dandy Dozen for sure. That guy is fast.

When you have a guy that can throw the ball, you can utilize all of the eligible receivers that you want. If you don't have that, you are forced to basically put everything on a couple of guys like we did with Dixon and before him Norwood. It's a lot easier to stop one guy than five. That's why having a good QB is so important.

I'm excited about Tyler Russell getting a shot. But from a coaches view point, this is the perfect example of how sports have come to "what have you done for me lately" or "what's happening RIGHT now." Honestly, this time last year us Bulldog fans thought we were back on top by our recent hire and getting the MS Mr. Football. What has everyone been most frantic about the past few months? Our next QB signee; Newton ringing a cowbell, Brunetti is giving us a look, and any others you might want to add. Hell some are still waiting on us to get one. If Russell turns out to be what we hyped him up to be when we signed him, we won't remember losing Cam and whoever else you want to add to that list.

he can beat Relf out at QB....

I fully expect a 50/50 amount of snaps at QB at least for Relf, if not more for him. Mullen has shown time after time in his past- he is going to run the football. Alex Smith averaged 12-13 carries a game at QB at Utah. He had Harvin and Murphy at WR in 2008 and still ran the ball 67% of the time. We are not going to become a team that slings it around the yard.

Russell better be learning how to run the ball.

asked to throw the ball more. He threw the ball a lot more last year. Mullen runs a smart offense centered on the run. Granted, it's not a typical "ball control" run offense, but it's all based off the run. He just needs the athletes and the line to do it.

with big plays in the passing game- not lots of passes....We'll know more in the Spring- but we could be seeing Relf as the starting QB with Russell coming in as a change of pace running a 2 minute-type offense with more passing

But make no mistake, we are going to run the football at least 60% of the time next season

they actually threw the ball more. They were still very balanced- it's not like they were Texas Tech or Hawaii either, so I think a lot of what we do in the future is going to depend on the perssonel that we have. Regardless, they still ran the ball with the QB. I have to wonder what kind of WR's Utah had when Alex Smith was there and I wonder if that influenced their play calling. I know at Florida, having Tebow I'm sure influenced them to run more.

I think as far as MSU and Tyler Russell- I think that we're going to see them beef Tyler up as he continues at MSU, and that will help him when he runs. He won't be the size of Relf next year or anything like that, but he doesn't have to be because we do have Relf. I don't think it's a stretch to think that Tyler could be 235 or so- about Relf's size- by the time he is a junior.

I also wouldn't be that shocked if Relf beat him out next year, but I also think it's going to depend a lot on how Relf progresses with the passing game. Relf ran the option better than a lot of these spread QB's I saw in bowl games. That said, his effectiveness was helped out a lot by having AD back there with him. So, we also better hope that Conner, Perkins, and Ballard are legit to. It will also depend on how well Tyler knows the offense- and that I don't know. I do know that from having seen Tyler play in HS that he's not as bad a runner as a lot of people make him out to be. He was a spread QB, and while they did throw a lot more with him, he did run the option from time to time and actually did OK. And that was against South Panola, who always has a really good defense. Russell will never be a Tebow or anything like that as a runner, but he can still be effective if he works hard in the weight room and the offensive staff works with him on the option reads. Russell probably has a stronger arm than Tebow right now, though and that's going to bring something different to this offense.

Fla was 54th offensively that first season- when they added Tebow, they moved up to 10th the next season.

I think as a staff, they are asking themselves this in the Spring- Will we be better with Relf at QB and having a Russell package or Russell at QB and having a Relf package?

Alot of that is going to depend not just on Russell, but on the WR's and what they are able to handle and bring to the table.

As far as what you have seen of Russell, I have heard that Lee was a better runner than Russell was this past season...will that always be the case? I dont know. You can bet Balis is working his *** off building him into a better athlete. We'll see
