pat wanted to come this weekend. called our coaches and said "i'm coming". then his mama called him and said "get your butt home, you have a basketball game." everyone knows pat wasn't at the game, but he didn't show in starkville either.

pat wants to come to msu, and our coaches know that. but his mama is "committed", if you will, to ole miss, and is intent on making sure he goes to oxford.

i'm not making any accusations. i thought i'd forget about pat until wednesday, but i figured i might as well post this, because it came from someone who would know. sorry if germans - i missed it if someone else said the same thing over the weekend.</p>

Not disputing because I don't know, but it could be that he simply wanted to come on the visit simply to party with his friends for the weekend. Could be that he isn't going to sign with State, and momma didn't want him 17'ing around all weekend instead of playing in his game or something. For some reason, I still think he signs with us in the end anyway.

If Pat is 18, it doesnt matter where Mama Patterson wants him to go because he can sign his own damn letter

...sounds like wish projection, but the part that is not with projection is that Pat has been on the market to the highest bidder for a while now.

Either we put in a bid Friday, and then quickly got outbid, or Pat was going to Starkville just for kicks and the OM/Bama "investor" put a stop to it.

Skinner. Not getting Patterson we can live with, but I don't want him taking a good looking LB prospect away from us that we've had committed all this time by influencing him to follow along somewhere else.

Don't worry - We offered Skinner a greyshirt (because it's not a sure thing for him to qualify - not saying he won't, just saying it's a challenge at this point), I think you hang on to him.

If we were dealing with contract law here you'd be correct. However, we're dealing with the NCAA and they make their own rules. We went through this in December when it was rumored that McPhee's mother wouldn't sign his LOI unless he was going to UGA. I'm not going to go find the NCAA rule, but, to make a long story short, the NCAA requires a parent/guardian signature even if the prospect is 18+ years old.

Of course you did. Yancey said you did so it must be true.

I don't know if it's true for Skinner or not, but we're going to have to start doing that with some of the uncommitted prospects on our board, and given the guys left on our board and the guys we have committed, I'd guess Skinner isn't the highest priority. We just got commitments this weekend from two new LBs, and we really don't need to add anymore in this class. Putting 2 and 2 together, I would guess that if we still have an offer for Skinner, it's probably a greyshirt, because we wouldn't have room for him otherwise without bumping someone else to a greyshirt.

This is true. And Andy Kennedy actually ran into an issue with it one time. He had a prospect ready to sign, and he thought he had the mother sold, but for some reason she refused. Well, AK does some backgroung work, finds the kid's dead-beat father (that he hadn't seen in a while), and he takes the LOI to the dad and convinces the dad to sign. I'm not sure which player it was, but I do know that the parent's signature is a part of it.

if the guy is going to OM we didnt want/need him anyway and if he is going to State, OM either didnt offer him or were potentially going to let the guy walk-on and earn a scholarship, but he may not qualify.

He was the #1 WR out of high school. He sent his letter in to USC but his father refused to sign it. After reading some articles it's pretty clear that his father is the male version of Momma Hopson.

since he will still get a four year scholarship in January if he came. It's just a matter of too many people we are trying to sign.

We would take Skinner for sure if there was a good chance for him to qualify - The guy is a stud.

could never, ever possibly be outrecruited by such a terrible recruiter as Houston Nutt.

We may have given the highest bid on Patterson.

But, I don't see how you can make such an accusation while simultaneously holding the position that Boyd, Russell, Cox, etc. are coming to MSU just because they love it, and not because they were given incentives on the side as well.

I'm sorry, but I can't blame him for that comment. The absurdity of this discussion warrants it. To even be discussing Pat Patterson at this point just goes to show that many people need either serious help or a very long break away from the internet.
