Guy is a horrible, horrible skipper. Great hire as an assistant in my opinion.

Any time you can hire a former NFL HC for a staff position, huge.

23-3, 40ppg, 485ypg

Those were the numbers of the 2005-2006 USC teams when he was the OC. With Bama's talent, I think he'll be fine

I'm quoting stats from when he was coordinating one of the best offenses college football has ever seen.

Say what you will about the recruiting violations, but that 2005 team is one of the best teams in the history of college football

He should have never ever been an NFL HC much less a college HC. His advancements came at the expense of his dad's reputation. His resume' says he sucks.

From a decade ago. You think he hasn't been the real coordinator and called all the plays at every job he's had since then? And while still good, especially the ppg, 400+ yards per game isn't what it used to be.

Im not saying it won't work out, but I am saying your argument is weak if you're saying because he had a successful year that long ago.

Also, those are two enormous egos. One ego too many in my opinion.

I'm hearing from my people that Saban is hiring Houston Nutt as QB coach per Kiffin's request.

I'm not saying he'll have success solely based on those two teams. And it wasn't just "400+" ypg. It was nearly 500. He's a good offensive mind, and I think he'll see success at Bama. I was just pointing out the numbers of his first OC job.

As HC at UT and USC, he never had the same level of talent as the 2005-06 USC teams

Rob Ryan just got a job based on his success 10 years ago. That went (and is going) well.

I think FallAmericanDawg is saying he has the ability to do a great job. I take his track record as an assistant at USC to be a better representation than what happened at the last 2 dumpster fires he's been at as a HC. We'll see. Alabama/Saban is a lot bigger than Lane Kiffin. Should humble him. In 3 seasons some middle level ACC school will get a decent coach out of the deal.
