I don't have a problem with them having 100 symbols. USM is about the least intimidating school ever, but when I attended the one game of theirs I've been to I thought their defense being named the "nasty bunch" was really cool. A&M had the "wrecking crew" and I just remember being a kid and thinking that was cool.
What I have a problem with is most of the Ole Miss fans I know not knowing the story behind "landsharks". Own it. Does it make any sense to me for a school an hour away from Memphis, TN to make an on-field reference to a shark fin when they do something on defense? Not at all, but if there's a story to it then it's valid. Don't just make t-shirts and sell them to kids who know nothing but "landsharks are what we call our defense and we do a fin when we do something good."
I don't know the War Eagle story personally, but I give **** to every single Auburn fan I know about them being eagles and tigers and every single one spouts off some story about eagles and war and **** each time. I don't know if they're taught how to respond to those heckles at orientation or what.
As a fan of a school forever intertwined with Ole Miss I wish they didn't have a stupid *** black bear as a field mascot, but it's only ever an issue during the Egg Bowl when ESPN zooms in on him and talks about how they had to get rid of the Colonel.
