Hey Coach34, here's someone else who says Carmon can't pass block

From Marcello's blog:
Carmon .....said earlier this week he’s still struggling with protections
Beating a dead horse, I know. But this is NOT what you want to hear from your LT in August.

I could be wrong, but I don't interpret the quote as "I don't pass block well".

I interpret it as Carmon is still struggling with the playbook protection schemes (who picks up who when defenses blitz, defensive lineman loop behind each other, etc.).

I think 30 fall practices can work a lot of that out. We will see.

as I said, thats the hardest part of playing OL- he has a veteran playing along side of him...he will get better

Patience my man, patience- this isnt basketball- our guys will be coached

That's the biggest thing right there. Look at the noticeable improvement by Relf, the O-line, the special teams, clock management, etc. These coaches aren't just going to throw Carmon out there and say "hit somebody". Hevesy will be coaching Carmon/Clausell hard.

It takes about 2 years to learn how to play OL at this level. Carmon's had 9 months. It's one thing for our coaching staff to make a mediocre (but experienced) OL better in one year. But they already had experience playing OL in the SEC. Carmon doesn't. He's having to learn from scratch a lot of things they already knew.</p>

BUT, i do fault them for not realizing until bowl practices last year that we may need to start bringing along some new LTs for the 2011 season. maybe i'm way off here, but it sure seems that's what happened. We should've had somebody ready to step in this role.

Carmon will not be as good as Sherrod, no doubt about that. I do not think it is ever as bad as you think it is. Last year I was worried about who in the hell was going to run the ball and now we have two quality rb that seemingly materialized. Im going to relax and hope that if there is a weakness at LT the coaches can scheme around it and we as fans wont even notice the percieved weakness.

I have no doubt that LT is going to be a problem for us. But I don't want to give the impression that I don't think our coaches can scheme around it to minimize the damage (in fact, I've said so several times). We're still going to have a good offense this fall. I think we'll score 30 per game. But I thinkRelf is going to be rolling right as soon as he gets the snap and/or we're going to have a fullback or TE helping Carmon on every pass play. I think Carmon's run blocking will probablybe adequate, and that's what we do most and best.

..how many times are you going to post about your grave concerns @ LT?

You are beginning to sound like missouridawg & the basketball team.

You are not beating a dead horse. You are pummeling the rotting carcass of a dead horse.

How about you stop commenting on the topic selection and start adding to the discussion.

Or better yet, excerise your right to read more and post less.

What he's doing now is actually a lot better than when he tries to add to the discussion. The truth is, the only reason I posted this at all was to get in an I told you so on Coach34. And I'm going to take that chance any time I get it, cause you know he will when he gets a chance to (over and over and over).

1) The basketball team will be fine, & will not be subjected to all the conspiracy theories & apocalyptic reckonings you have attributed to it. Attributed to it over & over & over.

2) Yes, there will be a downgrade @ LT, for obvious reasons. But Mullen is genius @ covering up weaknesses. We'll be fine @ LT as the season progresses; the position of left tackle on the MSU football team will not suffer the apocalyptic reckonings patdog has forecasted. Forecasted over & over & over.

How's that for adding to the discussion?

And just out of curiosity, what "conspiracy theories and apocalyptic reckonings" have I put out there?

All I've stated are the noticeable changes that you see in the basketball team this year... things that Stansbury has historically reluctant to do (Moultrie gaining weight).

You may want to wait until a few games after Memphis for that "told you so".
