I do.

Seriously, I find it really funny that:

1. BDJ is now outclassing him with baseball info, this despite his ties to MLB scouts and multiple baseball writers all over the state.

2. That sevendust is singlehandedly outclassing him with baseball info and is a regular poster. Whether he has ties to scouts or not I don't know- but I doubt it.

3. To make up for this asswhipping, Gene is basically posting stories about random players from around America.

The only thing Gene is good for as far as baseball is giving us updates on the schedule from time to time.

Gene goes down into the box seats at DNF and he harrasses the hell out of these scouts

Pretty much in the end they say "Sure you can sit here with us, just leave us the 17 alone."

And that is the true story behind his close association with the scouts</p>

The words "not important" never came out of my mouth. Everyone knows that recruiting is THE most importrant thing in any collegiate sport to be successful. It's just that its mid July and Genespage is littered with all these Baseball recruiting articles. Honestly, wouldn't you rather have articles to see where Tobias Singleton stands or maybe how the Basketball team is looking in the summer workouts? Oh and btw, I have actually consumed a Michelob Ultra or two in my day. I must say they are not bad. It's not my first choice but definitely do not mind it. With a juvenile comment like that I assume you try to drink the mostbad assbeer available. Milwakee's Best? Miller High Life maybe? Atta boy. Those guys advertise hoping that there are idiots like you who are insecure about there masculinity. A nice cold beast in your hand does not add inches to your dick believe it or not.

in college football recruiting. This month is important to see how our class shapes up.

Not to mention that there is a ton of information out there on football recruits anyway.

I don't know what summer workouts are going on in basketball, but Im much more concerned with what commits we are trying to land in baseball right now that summer workouts.

This is exactly the kind of stuff I'm talking about. We are spending too much timing dogging (no pun intended) everything about our athletics that we are losing focus on what its like to be a true maroon and white fan. The great Coach Croom once said, "there is only one color that matters, and that color is MAROON." Lets get back to the days where we were proud of our school, they days of Wayne Madkin, Rocky Felker, and Justin Griffith. <17> all you hot rods that are too good for your school. I am a true bulldog. <17> yall.

...I have no idea what they discuss on genespage these days, but there are few reasons left to visit sixpackspeak.com besides keeping up with baseball, football & basketball recruiting. I want to know everything about recruiting in all 3 sports. But I'm not going to genespage to get that info.

Claiming the typical MSU fan is not interested in baseball recruiting is like saying Houston Nutt is no longer interested in being a father figure to his players.

He has some dude named Oscar Mantle that is allegedly a scout writing for him. I've tried to find this Oscar Mantle character on the web, but I haven't been able to find anything, because I was interested in his credentials.

It has made me wonder if "Oscar Mantle" is some kind if pen name- I mean a baseball scout with the last name of "Mantle" is very coincidental, or at least I think so.

If someone knows anything about this cat, either post it here or PM me.

Also, as a sidenote- I wonder what the scouts are thinking when they see some fan come to the ballpark with his own radar gun in tow.

He certainly struggled out of the bullpen, but I think he is one of those guys that is a starting pitcher, and probably would be better in that role. It's just like guys that can't start, but thrive in the bullpen, and then you have guys that don't do well in the bullpen, but they are great in the rotation. And you have some like John Smoltz that can do both.

I think Devin needs to be a starter. If he can give us five solid innings every weekend, I would be very happy.

I think for most guys it comes down to the mental aspect of their position, and also whichever routine that they are more comfortable with. The routine is different for relief guys vs starters. I think Devin knowing exactly when he is going to pitch will help him out.

We'll see.

T4S- you peaked my interest in Oscar Mantle. Would Gene really make the guy up?

US Search reveals two"people" in US with name Oscar Mantle. One in Columbus, Ohio and one in London, Ohio.

http://www.census-online.us/search/MANTLE,OSCAR

Only one write up attributed to Mantle before 2010 (2001and likely a typo due the recruits (Luke Lowery)high school graduation date). I have not read Gene's "break down" of players but this guy is fairly uniformed in his writing. I agree this "identity" is likely a pen name for someone-and would not be that difficult to determine with a little time.

FYI- The name was used in a 2006 play "Two Wives and a Dead Guy" and someclown used it in responding to a Pokeman website fanfiction.net.Spokeo and Zabahave nothing for O or Oscar Mantle. Onlythree Mantles are listed in MS- one in Columbus but is not O Mantle. As expected no photos of Mr. Mantle. If Gene didn't create the identity, it is a damn shame... this guy is a perverbial ghost.NoFB and no MySpace accounts which reduces the odds for Mr. Mantle to be a person from a youngerdemographic pool. He might be young and from California but that link was weak so I doubt it.

Normaly I have more robust sights to stalk from and would be more positive in my assessment- but Mr. Mantle (and/or Gene) is not worth that. I think it would be great if Gene made this guy up to bring more credibility to his "team". Classic as you would say-

I am not saying he did and I can not comprehend how one might think that you could hide a sports writer? Some people manage to stay off the net but that gets more difficult every day. Let's just say that this guy has not written or coached jack squat under the name "Oscar Mantle" before working for Gene.

And now I shall lurk back into the wood work.

GD- Taking internet stalking to a higher level...

I'm thinking that this guy is either the Mantle in Columbus- he may have Oscar as a nickname. Gene lives in Caledonia, so that makes sense.

The other, most likely option is that Gene is making this guy up. On his website, there are no pictures of the scout, just a radar gun.

I'm thinking that his "scouting reports" are either coming from stuff that he has overheard at a game, or they are written by Gene himself. They very rarely have ratings- the 20-80 scale, which is odd.

And yes, I could see him doing that.

His other "pro scout" is Eddie Koufax. I wonder if he scouts on Yom Kippur. Mantle, Koufax, and I guess Willie Mays Hayes is his next addition.
