2009 WKU went 0-12

I think they lost 26 straight between 2008-2009.

Been D-1 9 years, bowl eligible last 5, 3 bowls, 1 bowl win, wins over SEC teams 3 of last 4 years.

Not bad for a school that seriously considered dropping football.

WKU built a "No Compete Clause" in Brohm's contract. He cannot leave WKU and take any job opening within the state of Kentucky for two years from the date he leaves WKU.

Brohm probably had a little bit of money in the bank from his NFL days before he got into coaching. He can probably afford to be picky about where he lands.

I'd still like to know why he was bypassed during the latest round of coaching changes. Maybe he's happy at WKU and doesn't want another job. Just odd that after back to back successful seasons no P5 school has come calling. Maybe he has his eye on a specific job that could come open in another year or two.

I think he has all the time in the world...

why would he leave a gravy train at WKU right now...he's not quite a top tier candidate yet...so I doubt the big P5 schools really considered him...

I don't know that it would be a great career move to just leap for the first mediocre program in a P5 where you may struggle to get to .500 and a bowl for 3-4 years...

not when he can win 8-9 games, score a lot of points, and get to bowls at WKU...next carousel he will be a top candidate for programs that are in a better position to succeed...

jumping too quickly is how a lot of coaches ruin their careers...

Jobs open up every year...

I posted in another thread that there is potential for another wild carousel on the horizon...Boston College, Texas AM, Nebraska, Texas, Colorado, UK, Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt, Purdue, LSU, Oregon, Miss St, Auburn...Stanford, UCLA, Notre Dame (if those HCs go to the League) ...all those gigs could come open in the next 2-4 years...

The more the game goes to the offensive side of the ball and high scoring systems are in demand...the higher Brohm's stock will rise...and he knows it...another year or two like this one at WKU and ADs and boosters will be wearing out the runway at BG-Warren County Airport with their jets trying to get to Brohm...

Brohm said yesterday that he feels like he can do at WKU what Schnellenberger did at UofL. He flat said he has no desire to leave WKU. Kudos to him if true. There aren't many that can resist the money or the ego stroke that comes with moving onto a power 5 school. I applaud him.

Also keep in mind Vandy was a much better team at the point of season when we played them than they were when Vandy played WKU. Saying UK would lose by 3TDs is silly. I'm not sure we'd win because our offense is so screwed up we can't score on anyone. We wouldn't lose by more than 3or 4 points though if we did.

He's not going to be offered jobs like ND, Nebraska, Texas, A&M, LSU, Auburn. He's going to have to take a mid to low tier P5 school. Purdue might be open next year and that side of the big 10 is weak.

If that's true, then why were there reports of him supposedly going to interview for the UVA job?

Gus Malzahn came from Arkansas St...yes he had been their OC...so essentially they hired their OC with not a lot of HC experience...Gene Chizik was not even average at Iowa St before he got the gig...

ND hired Brian Kelly from Cinci by way of Central Michigan...not really power programs in extremely competitive conferences...

Nebraska got Mike Rielly from Oregon State...yes P5 coaching experience...but he's not far above .500 for his career and OSU never much more than above average...

Aggies didn't think Houston and the C-USA was too far beneath them to hire Sumlin...

Chip Kelly came from New Hampshire...1 year as OC at Oregon, yes...that is still a pretty big leap for a P5 program...

Bob Stoops had no HC experience, let alone P5 before taking over sooners...

Jim Harbaugh didn't have a lot of HC experience coming out of San Diego...5 years earlier he was an assistant at WKU...

Gus was the OC for 3 years at Auburn plus had a year as OC at Arkansas so he knew Auburn and SEC recruiting.

Chizik was DC at Auburn for 3 years prior and HC in Big 12

Brian Kelly coached D11 for 12 years and won 2 NC then won multiple conf titles with C Michigan and UC.

Mike Riley coached at Oregon State for 9 years plus has NFL HC experience

Kevin Sumlin only had 3 years as Houston HC but he did coach as an assistant at A&M prior to that.

Chip Kelly was OC at Oregon for 2 years prior to getting HC.

Bob Stoops was DC at Kstate and FLA but you're right, he didn't have any HC experience.

Jim Harbaugh only had 3 years HC experience but he took over a Stanford team that had 5 consecutive losing seasons. They weren't the Stanford we see today.

Jim Tressel won 4 NC in 1-AA and was an assistant at OSU prior to Youngstown State.

I'm not saying Brohm won't get a high level job but he doesn't have the HC experience or connections to high level schools like most of the guys you mentioned. I thought UVA would have been a good fit for him but they hired a guy with a lot of HC experience. Brohm's only connection to P5 schools are ul and Illinois.
He's done well at WKU and may sit there for a few more years until the right job opens up for him.

Maybe this year, he's not in position to get a high P5 job, but a couple more good years and he probably will be.

One curious thing about Brohm this year. Doughty is a 6th yr Sr. His backup QB passed for 70 yards this year. Not a lot of experience coming back at QB.

There is no chance of that happening. They played their biggest game ever yesterday and there were thousands of empty seats. Their fan support is abysmal.

Just look at WKU's last 3 coaching hires.... Willie Taggert (USF), Bobby Petrino (UofL), and Jeff Brohm (11-2) and bowl bound for a 2nd straight season. Also Taggert and USF will be Western's bowl opponent, while the Cards will be playing A&M in the Music City Bowl.

Neutral site, I would guess Vegas line would be around -11 wku. Wku would be a horrible match up for uk. Everyone likes to point out a common opponent but Vandy holds everyone under their average. It would be a similar beat down as ul.

Yes, a common opponent is how you generally compare teams. Vandy out gained WKU with McCreary at QB. He is terrible which is why he got benched later in the season on favor of Schurmur.

UK gained as many yards as WKU did against Vandy and our D gave up fewer yards to Vandy.

If you are going to do that, how bout this, we beat South Carolina, South Carolina beat North Carolina, so we are better than North Carolina.

Wku presents horrible match up problems. To compare the two teams by playing a Vandy team (in which wku did beat) who locks down everybody defensively is not a good way to predict.

What would the spread be in Vegas?

after what I saw at grorgia and vandy then Louisville I would take brohm in a minute a pee wee league coach can do better no doubt we are avoiding the inevitable with stoops by replacing now with a 12 million buy out an mitch may save his job too there is no way in hell stoops can win 6 games next year with that schedule

B. Doughty had 2 years under Coach Taggard (as a back up), then 3 years under Coach Brohm - 1 of those with Coach Petrino as the head coach.

He bypassed the interviews because he is still coaching his team. He made that clear when rumors started flying that he would not interview until after the season. A measure of integrity on display.

Now that the season is over, basically, he may or may not, take a look around.

Yet WKU is rated higher (if that matters) than GA, TN or Miss St. In fact, only Florida is higher ranked.

Good luck enforcing that. What would the damages be? He probably doesn't get paid the remainder of his WKU contract? That's not stopping anyone. Fortunately for WKU he'd never come here.

It's called a "non compete" it's very common in if you work in sales. Lots of companies use them so you don't take clients wiyh you to your new job.

He prob has to pay a heavy penalty if he broke the clause.
