even Sherrill thinks they will be good...
Yesterday afternoon Jackie Sherrill stated on the radio that he picks Mississippi to finish undefeated in the regular season, losing only to Florida in the SEC championship game. He stated that the main reason for his pick is "the triggerman" Mississippi has, Jevan Snead. Sherrill said he is a "special talent." He said Snead is the best QB in the SEC with the possible exception of Tebow.

He may be right, but I still maintain that if Ole Miss "wins" the SEC Championship(or higher) that it's the end of MSU football. We suck enough as it is while the Rebs ain't doing ****, but let's see Dan Mullen(or the next 100 coaches) try accomplishing a damn thing off the heels of a modern-era conference and/or national title in Oxford. There's not a good recruit in his right mind in this state or surrounding areas who would pass up OM for MSU at that point.

As it is, I've personally been close to totally blowing off MSU football for the rest of my life for a while now. I'm not going to stick with a sunken(not sinking) ship when it's plain as day that the game is over.

Just keeping it real..............

Some people forget who we are talking about here. We are talking about a school that has choked up many great opportunities in the past. The Cotton bowl is an exception, but they won't be playing a Big 12 team in the SEC championship.

I say Mississippi loses 3 games in the regular season. Just can't see them living up to all the hype.

They just aren't good enough to go 12-0 in regular season. This record could get them to Atlanta. Having said that, it won't surprise me if they lose 4 again. A lot can happen between now and November.

You are so miserably depressing. Your "woe is me" attitude is really played out. Holy ****, Ole Miss is loaded this year?! I had no idea. Do you remember two years ago when they were 0-8 in the conference? We won the West in '98, did we "blow past OM?" I almost feel sorry for you. You're so jaded, it's really sad. Put your money where your mouth is and blow off MSU football. No one will miss you.

We will see how well Snead does when he actually gets a pass rush from his blindside. Oher was a lockdown left tackle. That really helps. Jerry also won't be there taking up 2 defenders and still getting in the backfield. I will not believe anyone that tells me they have 2 players that will simply replace 2 first round draft picks. And of course as we all know from 2001, injuries to the wrong people can completely screw your season. Let Snead get hurt and they might not make a bowl.

I think Jerry was a better player, but we are stacked on the defensive line, so I think we can help make up for his absence just by constantly rotating fresh, capable players in.

We don't have that luxury at left tackle. Since Oher took every snap at left tackle for the last three years, we have nobody with experience there, and the jury is still out on whether Sowell wants to take off his dress and get mean.

good for them. I hate them as much as the next guy but I look forward to the day when the relationship is not a zero sum game and we are less worried about how good they are and more worried about how good we are going to be. I would love to see both schools playing at a high level and the Egg Bowl being as big an event as the Iron Bowl. Barring any key injuries or extreme over confidence and in-fighting they will be going to a major bowl and could be going to Atlanta, I agree the South Carolina game is key for them but I think UM defensive guy NIX has seen Spurriers playbook and that will help.

The 6pack sheep? The same ones that said State sucks and OM would be in the CWS during baseball season?

How could you pick any SEC team to go undefeated in the regular season? This year is an odd exception when you can make that pick with Florida and feel good about it. Alabama 2008 and Auburn 2004 are the only two teams this decade that I can remember going undefeated in the regular season in the SEC. It's just too tough of a league to go 12-0 regularly.

The SEC has produced 4 national championship teams since 2003, and not a one of them survived the SEC slate without a loss.

You'll still have a good DL, no doubt. But Jerry was that rare player who made everyone around him better because he took up 2-3 blockers on every play. Your returning DL won't have the luxury of playing next to him this fall. They'll still be good, but you guys are acting like you won't miss Jerry at all, and that's just not going to be the case.

I just think it will be more obvious that we don't have Oher.

I don't think you'll see people able to rush much against us and we'll have a very good DL, but I don't think we'll have guys in the backfield on pretty much every play like they were last year.

1990 Mississippi finishes the football season 9-2. One game shy of a SEC title if I remember right. They get invited to the Gator Bowl and Michigan hands their *** to them. Meanwhile, State has not been to a bowl game in 9 years. State had not had a winning season in 4 years. Did State football shut down then?

2003 Mississippi finishes the football season 9-3. One game shy of a SEC title. Meanwhile, we lose our best coach ever. Supposedly the program is in it's worst shape ever. We hire the worst coach in the history of our program. We still manage 7 wins and a bowl win a few years later.

I agree it would be tough recruiting if OM wins a SECT and/or NCAA title. But they have not come close in my life time and they will not this year. Regardless, State football will survive.

I think they are without a doubt top half of SEC this year. Their record was 9-4 last year. They had some huge loses to the NFL draft. They play a soft schedule and have their tuff games at home. I think they will finish about the same as last year and fall short of Atlanta.

Arrow is one of those that buys the idea that success at Ole Miss/MSU is dependent on failure at the other school.

I'm not one of those. In state, we will almost always split the top prospects over time no matter how much success one school is having. And if anything, history shows that MSU will have a slightly heavier in-state mix than we will. That hasn't changed in a long time no matter what one school or the other is doing.
