he's 6'6" and weighs 210. Doesn't seem to be a strikeout type pitcher, throws around 87. Had a good era under 3 and completed half of the games he started and finished 9-3, I think. He was recruited by Oks and a few smaller D1 schools.

a decent middle relief guy for us at best. He doesn't throw all that hard and the only other decent offer he got was from Oklahoma State. He sounds like a junkball guy.

He had some pretty decent numbers, but I'm not sure that the competition he was going up against was all that great. His ERA was kind of high.

I've never been all that high on JUCO baseball guys, it seems like they turn out to be busts more often than not, so I'm not exactly turning cartwheels over this guy.

The one thing I do like about him is that he is 6'6".

Honestly, I would have rather seen us spend this scholarship on a high school kid next year.

for as many pitchers as possible which we all know. He must throw strikes, or Cohen would not have recruited him. Also, those other small D1 schools that recruited him have decent programs. I think Northern Colorado has been to Omaha before. We need all the pitching we can get. I won't judge the guy until he suits up for us and pitches.

I kinda thought he would be a middle reliever but looking at his stats makes me think he may get a chance as a mid-week starter. Seems to give up more than and a hit per inning and he doesn't strike out many. I did see where he grew an inch and gained a good bit of weight this last year so maybe he's still growing and will throw a little harder next year.
Btw, I can't see Butler going pro unless he is told to go. I also see Sneed playing 1st, but this Bole kid from Ala may get a shot at 1st.

and he might turn out to be the next great pitcher at MSU.

But at this point in the recruiting game, it's going to be hard to find really good players, and while yes, we need pitchers, I'd rather save this scholarship and go after a good HS pitcher next year than a guy from a JUCO. I think that would be better for MSU in the long run.

I think those players, as well as Ethan Bright, Cody Freeman (if he stays), and Ryan Duffy will also get looks.

in the outfield and Duffy at 1st. But if we can find a hitter who can play 3rd I like the idea of Sneed moving over, Sneed actual played a decent 3rd this past year. I think Boles is ahead of Bright, I can see Bright being redshirted.

Is he ever going to win SEC defensive player of the year? No. And I will say that his fielding PCT was pretty bad at .897.

But Parks hit .182 for the year. You may improve your defense a little, but you're also possibly hurting your offense a pretty good bit.

It makes a lot more sense to me to play a guy like Bole at first and Sneed at third and keep your offense going well and just dealing with the lack of defense with the hope that they drive in more than they give up.

Bright also will likely get a look at third to, as well as someone like Ben Bracewell.

Am I the only one that thinks Bright will primarily be a pitcher in college?

He can throw 90 MPH and I have heard that Cohen will at least look at him on the mound.

That said, Bright was one of, if not the most feared power hitter in the state last year. He only hit three because he was batting behind Renfroe and he played at South Panola, which is not exactly a baseball factory despite the fact that they had Bright and Renfroe this year, and he had no one protecting him in the lineup at all. He also walked a ton this year. He still hit .422 despite no one giving him anything to hit. He's also a LH power hitter, which is a commodity.

The good thing about Cohen is that he will look at Bright- and guys like Bole, Bracewell, Watson, and Miller- at pitcher and other positions as well and is willing to use guys as dual position guys.

No one seems to know what Parks is doing yet but Nick Ray (lefty redshirt freshman) should be in the mix at first The knock on Bright from the scouts is that his swing is really long may be hard to catch up to any velocity.

may be the best defensive first baseman State has. He was an invited walk-on by Cohen, but he also made Dandy Dozen, I don't know if it was a matter of Polk BS not offering him a scholarship or what. My question about Ray is whether or not he can hit SEC pitching, but if he shows that he can, with his glove he could definately end up being the starter. Ray can also play the corner OF spots as well. He could be a sleeper because he did lead the Mississippi Gulf Coast in batting average his senior year, and he showed some power with 7-8 home runs.

As far as Bright's swing- that's where John Cohen (who I consider to be our hitting coach despite Lane Burroughs title) comes in. He has the size and ability to be a big time power hitter in the SEC- he is going to need a little coaching, but I feel like if he reaches his potential, he could be a 20 home run guy in the SEC by the time he is a junior. And I feel like we have a staff that is competent enough to not make Bright into Jeff Flagg 2.0.

...Greg maddux is going to the Hall of Fame with an 81 mph fastball. Let's hope this young man can paint the corners and make batter look stupid.

Velocity is also relative. Phil Niekro was a knuckleball pitcher, but he'd occasionally throw a fastball. When he did, his 70 mph fastball looked like Nolan Ryan's.
