If that game were on Friday, I'd be there...

I've been to a few Oak Grove & Wayne County games.

I've been to a few Oak Grove & Wayne County games.

It was a great series from 2001-2002 when I was still in high school, and then Wayne County dropped from 5A to 4A which killed the matchup. Interesting that both of these schools had virtually no football tradition before the year 2000, and now both schools are perennial powerhouses in Mississippi. Both schools are expected to be strong contenders for their classification's state title this year and the game should be a good matchup with a packed house on hand.

Indeed. For a rivalry that only really started ten years ago, Wayne County - West Jones is awesome.

Yeah that game takes on a college football atmosphere. I hate West Jones, but if they ever do get over the hump and win a State title, the annual atmosphere of the game will most likely only double in electricity. I think Wayne County prides itself on keeping the Mustangs out of Jackson on a yearly basis.

Hate is a strong word...however the feeling is mutual.

What's the appeal of highschool games

unless you have a kid on the team?

In the unlikely event you see a young superstar in action, the competition has to be so inconsistent that it's impossible to tell just how good anyone is.

High School games are fun if you are a fan of the game. There are alot of mistakes, but there are a lot of big plays. In addition, there is excitement at most games. It beats the heck out of watching reruns on TV.

I'm sure NFL fans ask the same thing about fans of college football. It's just fun watching friends and relatives play for a team you used to play for. Its more fun if your high school represents a small town, which Mississippi happens to be full of. The rivalries and the tragedy of only getting to play four years and then most likely never again is part of it too. In a town the size of Waynesboro, it is the only thing going on during Friday nights in the Fall.

Morton v Forest. Little brother is playing and has some serious potential. Unfortunately, it's the beaver who's already on to him after a xouple camps but he despises om. He's still got a couple more years to go though.

I'm in your boat as well, Hump. However, where I played and currently live, there are probably 15+ High Schools in the surrounding area. So, while I completely understand Waybo's point, I've never experienced it. Father Cochise still likes to brag about his South Panola roots, but his heyday was long before their juggernaut days. Are they still good? I don't follow local HS ball, much less those in another state.

Went to MC-Brandon tonight. Okay game- bad first half, better second. Good for a first game I guess.

Crowd was great, except unless you were a season ticket holder at MC you sure as hell weren't getting a good seat and in a lot of cases could barely see the action. I finally sneaked into the Big Blue section and just stood so I could see. Turn me in all you want, I'm probably not coming back. Just too much of a cluster, and I don't want to be fighting people to see a sliver of the field.

********. There is some bar called the high noon saloon? that gets rowdy in wboro on friday nights.

I've heard some pretty rough folks I know say even they wouldn't set foot in the High Noon Saloon, which says a lot. One of my buddies said he got tossed out for getting in a scuffle there one night with some locals, and as he was leaving he looked back and saw a guy hoping up and down on one foot near the door. The guy happened to be shaking his prosthetic leg at him while shouting he wanted to kick my buddy's a**.

My response to being told that story was "Well that guy meant what he said when he wanted to go to the High Noon and shake a leg"

Not sure what your approach was but 4 of us walked up to the ticket booth on the MC side @ 6:30, bought a ticket and walked up and sat at about the 30 yd line general admission seats, no problem. There were seats above and below us. Walked out after the game and no problem getting out.
