I've been asked this a few times.....honestly no idea to be honest and I'm trying to find details etc.

Could catch, usd. Would a hypothetical Chuck Long type - a "move-in" from Oklahoma who transferred into Wheaton North, then went to Iowa count? Or is it illinois from birth through H.S. PLUS through college?

I'm guessing this is kids who went to HS in Illinois, college whatever. How many years of HS? I'd like to think they need to have at least done four years, unless a kid left and came back in his HS career.

I know it is not football, but how about the highest Illinois kid picked in the draft in other sports?

NBA-Mark Aguirre (Westinghouse) & Derrick Rose (Simeon) #1 overall
MLB- Bill Gullickson (Joliet Cath) #2 overall

NBA - LaRue Martin - DeLaSalle Inst., then Loyola University, 1972 #1 Portland Trail Blazers
MLB - #1 Danny Goodwin, Peoria Central, twice, 1971 out of H.S. (White Sox) then again in 1975 out of Southern (LA) University (Angels)

LaRue Martin, DeLaSalle and Loyola University, #1 overall pick in the NBA draft. Great guy too!

If George counts (he was from Indiana) we can include U of I's Kevin Hardy (also from Indiana) in this list...selected #2 right before Rice.
