From what I saw in 2 scrimmages this past summer, I knew this was going to be a banner year for the Springers. I said it and caught a lot of trash talk because of it, but...
1st game: Hermitage, hard fought game where HS had a few unlucky bounces, Herm stole that game at Highland Springs HS that we all thought HSHS should have won.
9 games later sitting at 9-1, SpringerNation is feeling pretty good thinking that if we bring our "A" game, nobody will beat us in the playoffs which we secured the #1 seed!
Now after going 5-0 in the playoffs beating Meadowbrook, Lee Davis, Hermitage (redemption game), Indian River and Stone Bridge, we are 14-1 with the D-5 State Championship Trophy safe a secure at Highland Springs High School, we are feeling damn good about this "banner year" and with all but 2 offensive linemen coming back and the majority of the defense coming back, we are looking forward to next year already. With some other under the radar offensive weapons lerking in the shadows of Greg Dortch, DJ Anderson, K'Von Wallace and DeShawn Young graduated.
You never know? Could they be a contender again? Could they repeat? Can they beat Bird or Hermitage? We'll have to wait and see!
I can't wait until High School Football 2016! Go Springers!
Congratulations on this 2015 5A STATE CHAMPION "Banner bearing" year!
