Highland Springs at Martinsburg, WV week 1

Martinsburg is currently on a 56 game win streak at the moment and graduates most of its team and loses its head coach from last year. Despite that, Martinsburg still returns the most all state players in the state of West Virginia and should be a close game regardless. Very good chance HS cements itself into West Virginia High School sports history.

I got love for Salem, they’re the best program out west by a mile, BUT, THEY’RE NO HIGHLAND SPRINGS!
Highland Springs is definitely better than Salem, but they’re not walking into Martinsburg and dominating them. This game will definitely be decided in the 4th quarter. Another fun fact is in 2017, Martinsburg went to a 7v7 tournament in Virginia with the help of arguably D2’s best quarterback and a couple of WVU commits at the time, they beat Highland Springs and won the whole tournament. Most of those guys are graduated but I don’t see anybody dominating.

I know Highland Springs is going to have a really tough defense. The offense is going to be tough too. There are some changes on offense I've heard. There will be a different QB. Bugg Jones, last years QB will be featured on defense ( which is where he is being heavily recruited). He didn't even play defense last year!!!! You will probably see him on offense in a variety of ways...That is the only thing I can comfortably say... except, look out. They will be a front runner for another State Title.

Respect. HS gonna have a lot of MOTIVATION. 6 in a row for Martinsburg? Varina ended HS 40+ win streak and ended their run. Martinsburg will have a great home field advantage and they have some studs.

What will the RB position look like for the Springers this year? IMO, that is why they didn’t win their 5th straight last year.

Looking back at last year's roster, this is what I can see. What their staff goes with is totally up to them and that is the part I don't know!! With that in mind,
RB's 1) Jordan Jackson 5'9, 200 lbs. Powerful runner 2) Lequan Bassett 5'6 165 lbs. speedster 3) Ah'Kee Pye 5'11, 180 lbs. JV last year. fast 4) Marsean Harris 6'0, 220 lbs. big & strong 5)Marcel Fleming 5'11 165lbs, fast, JV last year 6) Otis Hendricks 5'8 155 lbs. speedster.... On top of that, notice I didn't mention Bugg Jones (Notre Dame). You might be seeing him any where on the field, including defense.
I hear that there is a few freshmen coming in that have potential to be great!
It looks like they have a lot t chose from. You know HS's staff has a rotation that usually happens.
To me it appears that is no shortage of RB's or WR's. The defense is loaded with D-1 talent again and the Lines on both sides will be big and strong again.
I know they will be tough!

If HS wants to win this game comfortably they will need to take Martinsburg’s Special Teams away from them. Last years state Championship game was a great example of this when their opponent ran the triple option and seemingly tied the game up 14-14 with four minutes left in the first half when they got a deep kick return that set them up for a score and then squibbed it at multiple players and scored 35 off of special teams miscues within the final four minutes of the first half.

I looked at a few films of the them and that was the very first thing that came to mind. Their kickoff/ punt game was off the chain! On the kick side and the receiving side!
I was like, either they are very good at this or the opponent isn't good at this at all!! I do believe this is part of their game plan... but what is their new coach about?

Springer76...Martinsburg's Special Teams are that good! They have quite a few 1st players on their Special Teams. Like HSHS Martinsburg reloads every year. Their JV and Freshmen team usually go undefeated and many of the JV players get extensive playing time on the varsity due to blow outs. Every game last season went to a running clock in the 4th quarter and that includes the road trip to Salem where Martinsburg put up 49 (no team has ever done that to Salem) and could have been more if not for 3 1st quarter turnovers. As far as the new coach...he played for the former coach and has been on the staff for at least 15 years. He was the OC & Special Teams Coach. Not much is going to change. Also Martinsburg has 2 Stud Senior running backs: Nieme Kearney & Kevon Warren. If played this game will be a clash of titans!!! May the Best Team win!!! Also just to note... Martinsburg is use to playing Out of State opponents so this is nothing new to them (50% of their schedule is usually OOS). I'm sure it played a big part in the Salem game last season. As good a Salem has been it's a little different when you go outside your comfort zone. HSHS may not be fazed but you never know with 15-18 year old kids.

Not that it changes your post much, but Blacksburg put up 49 in 2017 regular season game.

From what you posted, I see 4 cup cakes
HS only has 1 legit cup cake. That is Meadowbrook. Page and Atlee aren't cup cakes!
