Hiring a good coach is extremely simple

The only thing that complicates things is vetting said coach to a level you feel comfortable as an AD.

steps:

1) did the coach step into a bad situation and turn things around quickly (2-3 years)?

2) does the program that said coach inherited have inherent disadvantages?

3) can he develop talent or recruit?

hire a guy that hits all these marks, you have a winner at MSU that you have to worry about losing in 4-5 years. If you lose that coach, no biggie, just repeat the above and things will be fine

If it were that easy none of these ADs would ever fail.

Also it sounds like you are only in favor of Hiring a sitting HC instead of a coordinator

AD’s outsmart themselves. It’s really not as complicated as it’s made out to be. If you are a power 5 coach with some experience in the south and meet the above, you will be successful at MSU

On paper, Moorhead was a home run hire.

He was highly sought after. Penn State was sad to see him go. PSU fans thought it sucked that he was leaving.

He instantly made them better on offense, and they did well under his tenure there as OC. Say what you want about him, but he was very successful at Penn State.

He also had been a head coach before, and was successful even though it was in an inferior league. Against like talent, his team performed well while he was head coach.

NOBODY ON THIS BOARD OR REALLY IN THE COUNTRY WAS PREPARED FOR HIM TO FLOP LIKE THIS. Stop pinning it as being on Cohen. Sometimes good managers hire flops even though they look good on paper.

Mostly, I’m just trying to point out, based on the Moorhead hire, we aren’t prioritizing hiring good results from coaches behind the 8 ball

This really is it here. Everyone thought the hire was great. It’s hard to pissed at Cohen unless he does not have the balls to do what needs to be done.

I wanted an offensive coach as well, but in retrospect, it didn’t hit any of the success indicators, or my retarded list of indicators

Fun fact: Fordham started offering football scholarships earlier than the rest of the Patriot League, and that's a big reason why Joe was so successful there - it wasn't a level playing field at all.
