Driving back to Alabama from Starkville today, I thought of all the good times I had at LenLew's, The Triangle Club, The Crossroads and at Echol's drinking beer and shooting the BS with friends. I know I am not alone in this so I thought that at the intersection of 82 & 45 there needs to be a historical marker for those places. They were an integral part of the MSU student experience until you could buy beer in Starkville. What do we have to do to have a marker erected?

Those were some epic places. There is absolutely no telling how many brewskies were thrown down out there.

You remember that giant sign in front? About 60(?) feet up in the air and you could see it a long, long, way off? I was in the car with a friend when we finally decided to leave after having WAY too many beers. He backs up without looking and runs into the concrete pedestal the sign was mounted on. "Why don't they put a damn light on that thing so we can see it?????" he screams. Priceless.

What the hell would the marker say: "In memory of the academic careers that perished on these hallowed grounds" ?

This is the place your dad tells you about...

while you sit at a restaurant in the city limits with a full bar and 40 beer choices.

Nice try, I was so smooth I could talk female accounting majors into skipping

class, helping me open up Echols (he would give you the key) and then make history out back*.

Well, you had to work your way through a few to get where you needed to be but

it was doable*. There were a few prizes which explains the smoothness*, your coming at this wrong son.

Beer and foosball at Len Lew's. Yes'm!
OldFart, I sure we have crossed paths. I worked for 3 years at Len Lew's supporting myself through college in the late 70's. On a Thursday night, it was wall to wall people and in the men's bathroom, ( should not call as such ) of course it had a urinal only, no commode.Someone comes up to the front and says there's a major problem in there. I walk in look around and noticed someone took a major **** on the floor. I said Holy ****, WTF, and it will wait till the morning. Most that frequented LenLews knew we had a bathroom in the back.

Now what amazed me from probably from 8 - 10, the bathroom had to be packed with a line waiting. Old Fart dawg, was that you.......??

My most vivid memories of the Cross Roads:
1. LenLew's- sleeping in my car because of the roadblocks
2. The Landing- the sign with missing letters that read: "H L DING", also, peeing on the floor in the bathroom with their version of the Templeton troughs
3. Echols- too many to type but the card in the juke box that read "the only reason you are white today is because your forefathers believed in segregation yesterday" prolly tops the list
and of course stopping by the skin flicks on the way back to town always topped the night off just right.

For the 80's crowd, was Doug's where Echols use to be?
The Landing on a Friday night was epic proportions of fun as was The Club on Thursday and Saturday nights!
I bartended some at The Landing in 86-'87 and even a random Wed afternoon and night could be outstanding.

I remember seeing that pile. It wasn't me though. I heard somewhere that the urinals at Len Lew's were the inspiration for the Templeton Troughs. No way to prove it mind you. But putting 50 lbs of ice in the urinals never worked at Len Lew's either

The Landing was the place on Sunday's when I was there. We got in the biggest bar fight I've ever been out there.

Special recognition should be given to all the frat boys that were brave enough

to go to Len Lew's and beat football players out of money on the pool tables. That was a dangerous game.

I give the people in Jackson at the Historical Sign Dept. a call and see what they have to say. I'll keep the blog informed. I saw on their website that a sign costs about $2,000.
