Anybody remember John Ray?
Ray came to Kentucky following a stint at Notre Dame in which the Domers won a NC with a D-fence that Ray coached to an astounding average 3.8 points allowed per game
Ray had great recruiting success: Sonny Collins, Dave Roller, Joe Federspiel....those were just a few of the names that played at UK under John Ray
Ray won a huge game against Archie Manning's Ole Miss team in maybe his second or third game as HC at UK....but little else, unfortunately
He ended 10-33 at UK after four years, was released, and finished out his career in the NFL as a DC
Mark Stoops has brought in some offensive talent (i.e., Boom), and won more games, but then again we play more games (12 vice 10)
I hate to say it, but my personal opinion is we are reliving history and sending Coach Stoops on to a happy future in the NFL
If there is a silver lining to this story, at all, it is that Ray was followed as head coach at Kentucky football by a guy named Fran Curci
