Looking forward to Eli coming in. Of course I’m not one to gnash teeth and wrent clothing while logging 4K posts on a free sports forum where coach and AD dissing chokes out any discussion of the sports themselves, so I’ll let yall carry on.

Hmmm, I don’t believe I’ve ever gnashed my teeth in my life. Golly, I don’t even know if I would know how to. However, when something sucks, I will say it sucks. I guess I’m old-school. Shoot straight.

This is a form specifically to talk about Gamecock sports. When they’re good, we can say good things. When they’re bad, we have to say bad things. No point in trying to be Pollyanna about it all. I could sit around all day and speculate about what may or may not transpire in the future. What I do know is we were very good last year. We’re a suck fest this year.

Disagree!! And it’s not because I necessarily want to keep Lamont around. I just think it would be incredibly impossible to find a good to even better coach to come here after we fired one who tied the program record for SEC wins and won SEC coach of the year the year before.

It's that kind of thinking that caused us to keep Muschamp around as long we did.

So are you saying you would want to coach at a school that fired a coach a year after he had those accomplishments?

Also your Muschamp argument is not a good one. Basketball and football are two totally different sports to manage and Muschamp never won SEC coach of the year or tied the record for most SEC wins. A better example would have been if you said Frank Martin after he got the school to the final four. We kept him around to long after he kept having bad seasons.

Just saying, we’ll do more damage to the basketball program firing Lamont this year instead of waiting another year to see how he does next year. Candidate Coaches would understand the firing if he had another bad year and probably jump onboard to coach here with the right pay.

South Carolina social media fans for the most part don’t appear to have actually played and/or been involved with a given sport at a mature enough level to have an understanding beyond a team’s current record, and hence tend to stomp their feet and cry ‘I hate you’ because they’re not getting what they want. Apologies, I know that sounds condescending but it’s obvious, as this thread demonstrates. The effort and culture required to build and establish a winning basketball team at this school goes way beyond changing coaches, amply demonstrated many times over. The best we can do right now is remain supportive and ease off the one liners and knee jerks.

I think it's more about being able to vent their disappointment on a free anonymous sports forum. Just trying to get it out of their system.

I say let him coach forever, but tie all raises to incentives. We're poor; we can't be paying people millions not to work as we have in the past. He's a nice enough guy.

How come we never write pay reductions into contracts for poor performance? Makes just as much sense as pay increases for one ''good'' performance. Or even no payoff for dismissal following the failure to meet certain standards/goals agreed upon.

Because college sports does not behave as a business model; never has, never will. Round hole, square peg.

With the onset of NIL, it has become exactly that, a business. Now that the model is broken someone needs to break the mold on coaches' contracts and start making them less one-sided and more accountable for production. We could be that trailblazer.

Great idea! I'm sure there will be some great young coaches lined for your trailblazing model.

Not that they are lined up but there is a diamond in the rough somewhere who would take a that deal - we just have to get lucky and find him.
Or we can keep doing the same old thing. Try to compete with those with a lot more money than we can pay and fail.

Get lucky and find someone that will take your deal and turn us around immediately? Ain't gonna happen.

Extend. Lamont. Now.

If that win over Texas didn't give the administration an ultimatum, I don't know...

There he is. Mom didn't wake him up yesterday! Mom! The meatloaf!
Admittedly, it took me a while to come around, but that win on Saturday changes...well...everything. That win, alone, is equal to like 10 regular wins.
