Might be the end of Kentucky basketball relevance. CCC did most of the work and Pope is finishing the job.

As far as a Basketball Coach, Pope could be the worst Coach at UK in my life time. BG is the only other coach that compares to him and BG was not a bad coach, he was just psycho and liked the ladies and drinks.
This is why you don't go out and hire a nobody if you're an elite program. So stupid.
Yep, I changed my opinion after what I saw tonight. I saw a coach that made no offense adjustments. You have to understand the strengths and weaknesses of your team and run an offense based on that. It was just playground ball one on one on offense, taking contested shots.Also see no improvement on just basic fundamentals from returning players.
This is AAU ball. Jacking up 3's (airballs) and one on one basketball.

I’m out on Pope. He really doesn’t have the chops for this. On any level except superlatives.
Had the dude never played for Kentucky he would not be on the sidelines coaching Kentucky. It’s really that simple and it is really sad that we hired a guy who didn’t even have real success at a far inferior school. And now that school is doing better than it’s ever done without him.
The last play is the least of our worries. 11 minutes without a FG is much higher on the list. Or maybe ONE 3 the entire game. Yeah we have major problems.
His superlatives got old like three days in. I don’t even really understand what I just watched. UNC sucks so bad. Any descent team would have won that game by double digits without a worry. That was truly horrendous basketball.
Sad part - I didn’t yell, didn’t get upset, didn’t freak my wife out. Nothing. I chuckled under my breath about 19 times because I was seriously so confused. My wife went to sleep mid way through second half. She said, “hope they win for you.” I said, “we ain’t winning this game, no way.” I was right and I knew I was right. That’s sad.
I’ll just wake my son up for school in the morning and tell him we lost again. And he will say, again, “they suck.”
I don’t think Mark has it man. I love the dude. But I just don’t think he has it, and it’s going to get really ugly this season. So ugly, poor guy may just walk away after it’s over.
I hope he does walk away. He hasn’t seen ugly yet. But its coming if he keeps this up.
It’ll take hiring Calipari in 2009 level of effort to get us out of this situation. It’ll require Mitch staying the f*** out of the way.
