1) Stokley showed his smarts by running parallel to the goal line to run time off the clock. 2) McDaniels showed his inexperience by going for two with a 5 point lead.

With such little time remaining, you are looking at a hail Mary TD at best for the Bengals. If they score the TD, you lose the game automatically because they take a 1 point lead with the TD. If you have a 6 point lead, they tie the game with the TD and still must make the extra point. I guess I would want to make them execute 2 plays instead of one to win the game.

way then it cuts the lead to 3. Then, all they need is a field goal to tie. Either way, you go for two there.

that was brutal to watch until the miracle play.

However it isn't a stretch at all that this propels us to a 3-0 start.

Professional kickers do not miss extra points. And they are rarely blocked. You'll probably have 5 failed one-point extra point conversions in the NFL all year long. You obviously go for 2 to get to 7, so that in the event that they do get a miracle touchdown, the 7 points only ties you.

Although, this statement does not apply to the New Orleans Saints. As the probability of a last-second touchdown of a miraculous variety approaches 1.00000 and the probability of that last-second touchdown being needed to save your playoff birth approaches 1.00000, then the probability of a successful PAT approaches 0.0000. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Od9C2dKiCI

The rest of the game was one of the most brutal football games I've ever attended. Paul Brown stadium went from pretty loud after the go ahead touchdown to dead quiet (except for the scattered Bronco fans). The Bengals fans were more stunned than anything. The guys behind me just said "Oh, so THAT'S how we're going to lose this one" and left. But seriously, both teams played like hot garbage for 55 minutes.
