BS.For those herewith access to the Spirit premium boards, check out Scout's Chad Simmons' responses to questions about re-rankings of Mississippi players. For the rest of you, here's how it works.

Yancy and Steve send Simmons their lists of the top 40 MS players. If YP and SR disagree, Simmons justaverages their two rankings out. So a kid who SR says is 16 in the state and who YP says is 30 in statejust -- poof -- is officially ranked the number 23 player in the state.

What's more is that no more than half the Mississippi kids can be 3 stars, so this hypothetical player is now deemed a 2 star simply because the 2 <17> nuts have such a wide disparity in their evaluation. In states like LA, however, where there's only one real Scout site, Simmons just uses the one guy's evaluation.

Yeah, I can't imagine how this system could be manipulated.

First off, recruiting rankings are just for fun. It's good for fanatics like me, who just want to talk about football all day long.

I used to use Scout as my primary source for recruiting, but over the past couple of years I have decided that rivals is much better... at least for MSU. Plus, Logan Lowery does an excellent job of keeping up to date with all of our recruits/commits.

I've never paid for any other service though.

You never know who the next Jerry Rice or Brett Farve will be. Not that they had the star ratings back then. I think a coach should build a relationship with the highschool coaches and take their opinion on players. Rely on them to let you know. I personally would take a highschool coach who coach a player or coach against a player then some sports writer who know everything about sports except how to play them. </p>

that you never see any background info or a bio on any of these self-proclaimed experts who run these sites or do these rankings??

I would love to know what these guys did before becoming the experts that they are.

After Butch left they won the MNC with his players.

ETA: This is not an endorsement of the rankings, just thought it odd that Butch Davis was used in this context. Bad example.

I can't imagine what kind of background Steve/Yancy have to make them evaluation experts. Maybe they have some training that none of us know about but I would have to think that most on this board wouldhave just as good resume as anyone else. Itdoesn't take a special eye to pick out 4-5 star players usually.

But it takes a little more discerning eye to tell the difference in a 2-star and 3-starplayer in my opinion. And heck it's all guesswork anyway - look at how many small schools put players into thetop 3 rounds of the NFL every year.

Yancy worked at Mallard Point gold course at Sardis Lake prior to working for Chuck. Granted, he was an OM and recruiting fanatic even then in the mid 90's. He was a regular on Sports 56 in Memphis a lot to talk recruiting. But I'm not even sure he played HS football.

I know nothing of Steve's background.

The Litchenfels guy that is one of scout's main guys up north was an unemployed steel/iron worker when he signed on with scout.
