This was my entire point, just having been to a number of campuses lately, they're absolutely rocking it, we are steeped in tradition, that just doesn't matter as much in today's climate, unfortunately.
Do you really believe that the Duke players give a damn about the "Cameron Crazies" .
They might say for the camera but stuff like that is no factor on why kids go to Duke.

I think its really too soon to say...rules are constantly changing. This is a different kubda thing. 4 or 5 years will give a better idea.

I don't know what rock you've been under son, here, just some of the places I've been over the past few years, nowhere even f'ing close... In no particular order, I'm sure I could come with others:
Texas
Texas A&M
Duke
UNC
GT
UF
UGA
AU
AL
OK
OSU
Michigan
Michigan St
UCONN
Syracuse
Baylor
FSU
Purdue
Miami
USC
UCLA

First off, I'm not your son. And I said, with proof. "Trust me son" is not proof. And I realize this is not a court of law,, but you're going to sit there and tell me that Georgia Tech and Syracuse have more NIL in Basketball.

Sorry, don't believe that. And if they do, they sure aren't threatening us right now. Of course Duke and UNC will. A lost of other major SEC schools will compete (we're one of the biggest conferences with a MASSIVE media deal).

But from "what you've seen" is not empirical evidence, in fact, I'd like some clarification on what that means Better facilities? Better fans? What? Is there NIL number higher. That's all I'm asking.

“Son.” Lmao. I bet you felt real hard typing that. Imagined yourself as Clint Eastwood or some ****.

A lot of you seem scared and I honestly don’t get it. Sweet 16 year one after all we went through.

Really, sincerely, not panicking, just asking the question of where things are headed, not as much do with UK as it is the changing landscape.

I've been saying this for awhile. If you're a basketball player in Lexington, what are you doing for entertainment away from the court? Visiting the airport? Kentucky Horse Park? Going to Winchester to see the Ale-8 factory? Hanging out at a defunct Fayette Mall?
What do they do in Durham?
Lawrence KS?
Stoors CT?
Regardless of where they are they probably play ball, fulfill their minimum academic requirements, play on their phones, play video games and try to hit as many coeds as they can.

The system has changed radically in the last few years, I'm not sure UK has the resources nor the environment to compete at the absolute upper elite level, given today's climate. I believe Pope is awesome, his energy, passion and care for his players are second to none, I'm just not sure in this construct can the program compete to where it needs to be. Today it's all about maximum exposure, media, and the biggest one, money, just not overly confident UK is in the top 10 when it comes to these type of resources, I'm going to say, we're not, IMO.
We have the fan base, the conference money, and the history to always compete in basketball. We may not have the most billionaires but I guarantee we have the most people overall who care about winning in basketball to keep us at the top.

Exactly, I don't know what many are not seeing with this scenario, absolutely the case, most young men have next to zero interest in visiting horse stables, hahaha and seeing the innards of Lexington.

I get everyone is piling on OP but I do think it is a legitimate concern in the NIL era. This article from 2023 is about the USA & Knight Commission which lists the financial support from boosters from 2005-2022. Kentucky was 36th/50 (14 out of 16 in the SEC). Other rivals ahead of Kentucky were Louisville, Indiana, UNC, Kansas among others. Private schools like Duke, Notre Dame, Miami (FL), and USC were not part of this listing at all and I imagine they are all ahead of us.

Basketball history literally does not matter anymore. Recruits only care about NIL & coaching relationships. If we can't compete financially, there will be problems.

This game shows you still have to win with defense. You have to be able to play in the 60s and 90s to win it all. None of this first to 100 stuff,

Honestly, I think we’re in great shape. We’re a storied program with a large and loyal fan base; we’ve got a brilliant, young, energetic coach who studies the game and appears to be beloved by his players; we’ve got good-to-great facilities and at least a good NIL budget. If I lived in Lexington, I wouldn’t throw out my old couches.
I also just see a report where we will be getting new Bball upgrades very soon. The money is back because Pope is exciting.

Yep, I wasn't even going to bring that up, the 14 of 16 SEC, because many refuse to believe or acknowledge it.

Because you're beating a dead horse thinking the program is dead with no proof. It's like walking into a fan club and saying their subject sucks and we should disband. I'm not the only one disagreeing with you either btw. I'm just challenging your lack of evidence, and you don't care for it.

Child? Yeah, ok. Have the night you deserve sir.

Support from the boosters changed QUITE a Bit after the last year. Wonder what could've changed......

So several sources are saying we are in MUCH better financial shape than that. Are they all lying?

It's almost like the old coach wore out his welcome and people were tired of paying into a losing product and giving money to a coach that talked down to not only boosters....but the fans.....nah. We all dreamed that up.

Every school with a basketball pulse is going to try to raise money to compete. What's your point? Pope has been here one season. We're ranked in the Top 5 for classes next season. I'd say we're doing ok recruiting wise atm.

The campus of Texas A&M is absolutely unparalleled, with them being a service supported school, that place is flowing with money, I spent a week there recently and it was epic. You're also close to Houston and as I said, the campus itself and the amenities are world class.

So world class Buzz ran off to Maryland. MARYLAND.

I have no doubt they have a nice campus and great facilities. How's that working out for them in football and basketball? They've yet to really compete on the court for sure minus a couple of deep SECT runs.

They have a TON of oil money. No doubt about it. Not sure what good it's doing them atm. Could change depending on who they land to replace Buzz

MD has an absolute ton of cash, with the Under Armor deal they have going, that's what I was saying earlier, some of these schools are disproportionately churning money into their athletic programs, MD is one of them. They don't need to always out compete us, at scale.

Yet they just lost their coach who said, and I quote,

"For us to be really successful, x, y and z need to change," Willard said. "First and foremost, I need to make sure where we are with NIL and rev share... Over the past two years, we've been one of the worst, if not lowest with NIL the past two years"
