I mean he'll have a chip on his shoulder, he can recruit out of this regoin, he's won big in the sec, and even if he did leave in 4 years he will have probably given us 4 good years and built a good foundation for the next coach.

...is if you can get a Petersen, Patterson, or Kelly level guy to come instead. To borrow from a PM I sent BMT last night, I personally believe that Tuberville is/was one of the best college football coaches alive. He may be the most proven commodity we could possibly land. However, a) he won't make the splash that a younger up and comer would and b) we would be admitting we are Auburn's *****.

Don't get me wrong. We are Auburn's *****. But in this case, outside perception of the direction our program may be as important or more important than proven coaching ability. If whomever comes in doesn't make a big splash, they could be doomed from the outset. It has implications from hiring of assistants to recruits to alumni giving. Without the right scenario, even someone as talented as Tuberville may not be able to win consistently at State.

On the other hand, an up and comer could inspire infinite confidence and create a buzz. Sylvester Croom created a buzz because he was the first black head coach in the SEC. He gave us infinite possibility, except that we found out he can't coach. There's a ceiling on the confidence Tuberville can inspire, because we all know what he brings to the table. He's a proven commodity. He leaves no room for the imagination.

I know. What a crock of **** that is. Well if "looks tired" can get him 47 wins in the amount of time it took crooms to get to 21 then SIGN HIS TIRED LOOKING *** UP.

all of his buyout. In his contract it states that they have to pay him 3 million iwith in 30 days of being fired and another 3 million within a year. If I was tubbs I would sit on my *** and count my money at least for a year.

I mean yea he wouldn't make as big of a "splash" but in my opinion we need someone who's proven. Sure some up and comer would make a splash but we have literally no idea what we're getting with them..as opposed to Tuberville who we know can take us to a bowl consistently. And thats all I want right now - to go to a bowl. Petersen is still my number 1 choice, but if we get Tubs I'll be more than happy.

I think he is tired....of the hassle and he supposedly has some health concerns. He may take that 6 mil and say <17>it for a while. He isn't my first choice and I'd want to know who his OC is going to be before I'd hire him but in reality Tubbs with Mazzone or Borges would be 10x better than McCroomvy.

I hated him for a few years after he left, but have come to the conclusion that he would have been an idiot not to leave. He could have handled the situation a little better, but he got an incredible raise when he left us.

...........Tuberville saying earlier this season that changed the offensive scheme because that's what recruits like these days. Now obviously it didn't work out with Franklin, but TT clearly indicated he was willing to change directions offensively. Maybe he still wants to go in that direction, so if MSU hires him it'll be a matter of who he hires as his OC.

Never said don't hire him, I just don't share your view of pushing him to the top of the list. Also, I'm not the only one that thinks he looks tired. It is truly sad that we can't have a legit discussion about this legit topic on a discussion board, but you'd rather spend your time belittling my argument by acting as if it is totally ridiculous. I watched a coach minus the fire he once had totally destroy our program. To me, this is a legit topic to discuss. I could be wrong, I could be right, but we should be discussing it. You'd rather go the GP way.</p>

They were saying he's washed up way back then. I don't like him by the way he lied to OM when he left them for Auburn. If we hire him ,I probably would'nt buy ticketsbut I'd still have to pull for the team itself because I've been a loyal state fans since I was about 8 yrs old.

Not trying to belittle your argument, well maybe adding a little validity to it, but I have to make the observation that our last coaching hire didn't appear to be too "hungry" at the date of hire(fatass).

I still think Tubs would be a good hire for us and I don't think Byrne would do it if he thought Tubby has lost his passion. Right or wrong I actually think Byrne will make a good call here. Something I didn't/wouldn't say about his predecessor.

Pros: Tubs overall record
Tubs SEC record
Tubs ability to recruit
Tubs passion for recruiting
Tubs ability to coach
Tubs non-reluctance to fire underachieving assistants
Tubs motivational abilities
Tubs game-preparedness
*****
Will push the envelope

Cons: Pine box
Looks tired
