one would think you could have gotten Daytons coach for a lot less than 4 million per year -- that is essentially what Izzo pulls down
That is high profile coach money not mid major
I'm sure he'll be shown the door.if.he doesn't earn it.
Good hire. Not a huge splash, but he's a good coach. (Oops just saw jbl referenced this in another thread).
Dayton can do better.
Not sure what you consider a splash hire as he's considered one of the great young coaches out there. He's stayed pat at Dayton waiting for a damn good gig and he got it.
Matta isn't going to be let go at OSU. Archie Miller is a good hire for IU.
Can't believe they settled for a mid-major guy.
So did Mizzou.
It was a statement about many on the board who claimed Nebraska should never settle for a mid-major guy when doing a coaching search.Bob Knight says hi.

Martin is not a better coach but he is a better recruiter and might end up wound St.Louis, ESL and Chicago...by owning I mean he will get his guys more often than not...those places are rich with talent. You think Martin is a better coach than Archie Miller? Seriously?

Not a bad hire, but I think Illinois actually made a better hire.
interesting that Indiana is paying more for their new hire in basketball than we are for our football coach
now maybe we were willing to go to the 4-6 million range for football but didn't get any interest from a coach deserving of that pay range ..
Maybe it helps that Indiana is a original member and is getting more of the B1G pie to off set the expenses.
Also there are more asst Coach's to pay and take care of in football compared to basketball.
we are cheap .. I posted Nebraska's head coaching salary compared to other blue blood programs in another thread
There are some clueless people in this thread. Indiana will be killing it in a couple years with this guy running the program.
They might, but the Big Ten is a big step up from the Atlantic 10. Even Tim Miles beat Dayton this year. Shaka Smart dominated the A-10 and with all the resources of Texas still finished last in the Big 12 this year.
What Brad Underwood did at SFA and then turning OSU around in one year is more impressive to me. Archie inherited a very good Dayton program from Brian Gregory and had one good tournament run a few years ago. There's no guarantees he's going to kill it Indiana. Remember that Crean took Marquette to a Final Four.
You do realize this guy has been on the radar for pretty much every program looking for a coach the last couple years, but it was pretty well known he was only leaving for a select few places.

Again, so was Shaka Smart.
I don't doubt he's a good coach, but on paper he's not better than Izzo, Beilein, Turgeon, Collins, Gard, Underwood, Painter, etc. Two years in a row he's lost in the First Round. The expectations at Indiana are a lot higher, they just fired a guy who made 3 Sweet Sixteens and won 2 conference titles in the past 6 years. They expect Final Fours. If Archie is like his brother Sean, they better get used to choking before the Final Four.
I agree...they will be really solid there is no doubt about it. It is a great hire and probably one of the best hires of the off season. There are some clueless people in this thread. Indiana will be killing it in a couple years with this guy running the program.
