Well truth be told AL and the SEC schools (Auburn especially with Cam Newton) as well as a few others over the years have probably been paying some players more than the nfl league minimum (keep In mind no taxes, insurance, or agent fees). Benny Blades of the Canes once said “I took a pay cut when I went to Seattle Seahawks from the Canes”. His words. I think college sports has to hit rock bottom before it can be reset. The sport from a fan attendance #s has a downward trajectory right now and 1 good gambling scandal in this environment could really put it there fast. The group I buy or bought tickets with has owned 10 or 12 seats in section 125 since 1980. At least 10 but I think the end 2 came when 2 neighbors died. I’ve set in those seats since 89. Last years we didn’t renew. The Athletic Dept offered the seats again this year to the company. There were no takers. The group as a whole let 20+ seats on the press box side go. There are still a few that buy but the number is dropping and we set through some lean seasons. It wasn’t about wins and losses it’s the loss of relatability and changing of the game. I’m still watching at home for certain games (don’t ever watch the 1-aa tomato can game) and saving thousands. There’s that advantage & others like also watching other games. Well and then I’m not spending 6 hrs in the auto on 79 going to and from the 26505. I’m watching as a longer distance fan now. I’m giving more $$$$ to the vacationing, hunting, fishing, and home improvements than game days. Maybe it’s a generational or age thing but there’s guys in the old group of different ages/generations doing the same.
