Watched Get Out again. Liked it the first time; loved it the second. Googled some things about it, like the flag thing. He's wearing a blue shirt and she wears a red striped shirt.

Got around to seeing two "lake" movies I've been meaning to see:

Eden Lake and Lake Mungo.. weirdly enough both Australian films (or NZ, same thing). Pretty solid. Eden Lake is a couple getting stalked by a bunch of Australian youts with a very talked about ending. Michael Fassbender is in it as an early role. Lake Mungo is a found footage film about a girl's drowning in a lake. It was OK. Chilling ending. Both of these got acclaimed for being very tough to watch for different reasons.

Going through the new Wrong Turn movie. Much different than the originals. It's done a good job to pull the franchise back from simply being "torture porn".

If you haven't watched the original My Bloody Valentine, it's a good time to watch. High underrated early slasher.

I wasn’t particularly impressed with Mungo, found it boring and I generally like found footage stuff.

Kinda felt the same. I read an article that it was some great movie and gut-wrenching.. and aside from the climax scare, it didn't offer much. I thought some of the "Look, she's in the video!" shots were stretched a bit. Like a pixelated blob and they're like "Look it's her!".

Obviously the part about her alternate life with the neighbors was chilling. Caught me off-guard.

Watched Freaky, where Vince Vaughn is a serial killer who switches bodies with an awkward female HS student.. it was a little too "MTV" for my liking, but I thought it was fantastic otherwise. Great kills, solid performances all around, and Vince Vaughn is pretending to be a teen-girl was just gold.

Watched Hell Fest on Netflix. Really well done slasher movie. Took the 80's slasher / gore movies and added substance to it. Really well done, especially for a slasher. Nice , different plot. By the way, be really cool if there was a traveling Hell Fest type carnival. I would definitely go check it out.

Lot of solid movies coming out.. admittedly some more horror than others.

Escape Room was a pretty good movie, IMO. and this continuation (if you've seen the 1st) actually has my attention.

Everyone going nutso about this.. hearing it's a shoe-in for GOAT horror movie of the year.

M. Night Shyamalan's return to greatness?

And of course.. The Green Night. which likely is more fantasy than Horror.. but IDC. it's A24 and I can't wait to see it. Most anticipated move of the year.

Just saw A Quiet Place Part 2 over the weekend. Was pretty good and I enjoyed the origin story mixed in. Also got much more up close and personal with the creatures after the first movie left you not knowing what exactly they are and you barely got to see them.

I haven't seen that one yet but it made me think of a different movie called No Escape. Can't recall if we talked about it in this thread. It's about a vlogger that does a lot of crazy stuff to show his followers. He goes to Russia to try some Escape Room type of place with his friends. It has a M. Night Shyamalan type of ending.

Dude, I hear people LOVE QP2, even more than the original. Can't wait to check it out. The 1st one was fantastic.

Escape Room is by no means a "great" horror film", but it's a good one, with a lot of great set pieces, and the movie itself I think was PG13 (at least in regards to the deaths), so it's accessible. But the 2nd one is about the two survivors going after the coporation that put them into these escape rooms. And the way it ended, with characters not only winning, but planning to take action was a great premise.

I'll have to check out No Escape.

It's decent not a great or big budget flick. Kind of Saw meets an escape room movie. I believe it's on Hulu right now still.

Oh yeah saw the trailer for Old during A Quiet Place 2. Looks interesting. Watching something on Netflix now called Ghosts of War. It's a movie about some US soldiers having to hold some mansion in France during WW2 that turns out to be haunted.

Ok that had an ending I wouldn't have ever thought of.

Watching the new Spiral movie in between work. The acting from the female police chief is some of the worst I've seen in years. It's horrendous. Chris Rock's acting ain't much better so far (always thought he was an awkward actor). However, his opening scene/trap is pretty great.

But the best part? Chris Rock and a bunch of other Undercovers are preparing for a Raid. And they are chit chatting about Forrest Gump and if the movie, being about a mentally handicapped person, would be made today. And then he brings up the plot and ragging on Jenny.

Cop: "But they eventually got together"
CR: "Yeah, after she got aids.."
Cop: "Well, it's not like Forrest Gump got Aids.."
CR: ".. well I ain't seen no sequel"

That had me LOLing.

If CR would have said "the AIDS" it would have been better.

All horror movies must be measured against the Kurt Russell version of The Thing. It remains the gold standard for Horror Movie Greatness.

I saw Quiet Place II and thought it was actually a little more intense than the first one.

Violence in movies doesn't really bother me unless it is something I can really relate to. Like I've never had a body part chopped off so seeing someone get their arm chopped off isn't a big deal

so 'A Quiet Place Part 2'

had to turn away when she was walking down the stairs and almost stepped on a nail. Same with the first. I couldn't stand it. and when that kid gets his foot stuck in a bear trap. The trap itself didn't bother me. But when they poured alcohol on his wound to sterilize it? OMG 🤮

Damn this movie is so formulaic. And just when I think Sam Jackson is here to save the day, he TOO has some suspect lines and disappears out of scenes without much explanation.

Feels like this movie was taken out of the oven 10 minutes too early..

2021 is a banner year for Horror films at the box office/streaming.

Box Office numbers so far have Horror movies (or Horror adjacent movies) at the following: 3rd, 5th, 9th, 13th, 15th, 18th, 20th, 27th, 29th, 31st, 34th and 36th. I'd guess the Horror genre had the most representation in the top40.. and that's unheard of...

I'll post some of my favs when I can. Lots of great stuff I've found since my last post.

Perfect time of year to bump the horror movies!!!!

So far I've only watched Friday the 13th and Part II.

I watched one tonight called "The Honeymoon Killers" made in 1969.

It wasn't bad but it's more thriller/suspense than horror.

I’ve heard Old and the Conjouring movie are not good. Saw Moral Kombat and that was pretty tough.

The Green Knight was good but doesn’t belong in a horror discussion.

I've heard they are OK, but regardless, it's a box office list, not if they are good or not. Showing that this year, horror movies did very well at the box office. Considering the age limitations, and the niche-ness of the genre, that's an impressive list.

And Green Knight is indeed horror adjacent. Straight up horror? No. But its not the first movie to mix genres. Both Fangoria and BD write extensively on it. But let's remove it anyways, still a great year so far for Horror.

Horror will always bring an audience. Even during the mid 2000's when every film was a straight up terrible remake of a classic, most horror fans showed up. I've often said that genre fans are the ones keeping physical media afloat. I know guys who've bought Halloween or The Evil Dead several times over the last 25 years simply because the new edition may come with a new interview or something. We (horror fans) are also way more forgiving. There's nothing worse than a bad comedy, because if it's not funny, then what's it's purpose? Bad horror is just fun though.

Watched the Fear St series.. it was pretty good. A little geared towards teens/YA, but still nice and gory and didn't pull punches.

I thought it was good. It tied in the others then gave a new story of who the candyman is.

Other than the obvious eye roll moments that comes from Jordan peele wokeness

Agree about his movies, and his actual comments, at times. But I kind of found it funny people raging over the new Candyman for the social commentary, racial themes, etc.. and I just laugh like "have you not seen the original Candyman?"

This is true. Bad horror is just another form of comedy. I suggest you watch a movie called motor home massacre. It’s fits this description to a T. One of the worst horror films I’ve ever seen... but comedy gold.

I saw "Old" and "The Night House" recently just because I was jones'ing to get back into the theater. Also, even a bad scary movie is pretty enjoyable as far as I'm concerned.

Old: 2 / 5. Cool premise, terrible acting/cast, and very easy Shyamalan twist to figure out. The cinematography was pretty cool. Tons of panning shots that make it feel like you are an invisible voyeur watching all of the events unfold. Kind of a cool first-person feel to it. However, I wouldn't even bother streaming this one for free.

The Night House: 3.25 / 5 (..yeah I just dropped a decimal rating). Worth checking out, and it had potential to be great, but I'd just call it pretty good. The lead actress does a great job displaying the range of emotions for a widow dealing with some paranormal ********. She takes up most of the screen time, but the supporting roles are pretty well done as well. I can't get into my issues with it overall without spoilers. Also, if you hate jump scares, this isn't for you.
