Have to agree with the OP, Hereditary sucked. Really looked forward to it with all the press leading up to the release. I walked out when it was over and realized that was 2+ hours I'd never get back.

I'm sorry I guess. You and the OP have to realize the are the minority if you really feel this way about the flick. Raving reviews but its def not for everybody. It puts stress on the viewer

Did you see Midsommar? Ari's second film. Its awesome as well, true horror like Hereditary

Not sure how someone could dislike Toni's and Shapiro's performances in Hereditary. Its a crime Toni was robbed of an Oscar

No need to feel sorry for me, my good man. I'm pretty selective about going to the movies and was really stoked about Hereditary based on the reviews. It just wasn't my cup of tea and both me and my girlfriend laughed at some parts where other audience members were gasping. It is what it is!

I chose not to go see Midsommar when I found out it was done by the same guy who did Hereditary although the sex scenes may entice me to change my mind. :)

That time of year.. what'cha watching? New, old, soon to be released..

Amazed to see AMC really step their horror movie game up. Just watched Cult of Chucky and Curse of Chucky... which if you wouldn't believe it, both are great movies in the series. Unlike those crappy ones from the 2000's.
The Exorcist, which is the GOAT of horror films.
A Nightmare on Elm Street, the original. The most brilliant idea for a horror film ever and Freddy is actually scary and menacing in this one.
Those are what I watched.

Hereditary is one of the most unsettling films I've seen. I thought it was great.

Midsommar was an excellent follow-up. I hope Ari keeps making awesome horror movies.

October 2nd and I've already gotten in a Jason X, Halloween 5 and Bride of Chucky! Gonna be a good month for Horror movies, what with working from home and a TV in my office.

On deck? Brandon Cronenberg's "The Possessor", which is getting great reviews.

What's everyone else watching?

AOJD was fantastic.. A great tandem of main characters, and everytime they show Jane Doe motionless, I hid behind a pillow thinking she was going to spring to life.

The VVitch was also superb. Tought to understand 1600's dialect, so in movies like this, I like to turn on CC just to understand what's happening. You'll be singing "Black Phillip, Black Phillip!" shortly. The VVitch isn't for everyone.. if you do enjoy it, check out Eggers next film, The Lighthouse, which was my favorite from last year.

Aren't we all kind of living in a real life horror movie right now? Honestly, it is the worst movie I've ever seen, but it is definitely in the horror genre.

How did you watch the Possessor? After reading a synopsis I'm intrigued.

Hereditary is the last horror flick that I remember watching that left me feeling as if a part of my own soul had been taken from me, watching what unfolded in the final act. It was slow to start and can beat ya down with the depressing aspects of what the family endures...but nothing will prepare you for that final 15 mins...simply bc your heart won’t know whether to race or stop entirely between the moments that stun or vex you versus confuse/bewilder but I couldn’t look away ...I sweat thru my shirt first time I watched.

When the main actress in The Witch summons Satan via Black Phillip, that is pretty wild as well.

Hereditary is an all-time classic though. A24 has put out some damn good horror movies.

Some Halloween favorites of mine.
1. Halloween
2. NOES
3. It Follows
3. Insidious
4. The Descent
5. The Thing
6. Dead Silence
7. Wrong Turn
8. Friday the 13th series
9. The Shining (should be higher up)
10. Dawn of the Dead (same)
I liked Hereditary but it was more disturbing than scary. I also liked Get Out and Us.

Half way through Possessor.. it might as well be a horror version of Inception. So far, it's been OK, but I suspect it's gonna pick up. Supposed to be hella gory and gross, just like old Cronenberg movies.

A few that I've seen in the last year I like:

The Ritual: Great creature movie that does a solid job with the Wendigo.
Apostle: In the vein of The VVitch, crazy ending. A very gnarly torture device half way through.
The Platform: kinda border on sci-fi. But a great premise.
Doctor Sleep: Wow, fantastic call backs to The Shining that worked sooo much better than I thought. More of a super-natural movie than horror, if that makes sense.
Midsommar: Horror in daylight. Loved the scene with kids face cut off.
The Lodge: Slow burn, messed up ending. Great sense of dread and isolation.
In the Tall Grass: Very Stephen King ish.

Can't wait to see Terrifier 2, The Beach House, Halloween Kills, Candyman, Killroy

Possessor picked up, solid movie, not too gory IMO, won't be for everyone. Very art house.

Didn’t see anyone post it, but the Strangers (first one, second one sucked) with good surround sound is pretty damn good. Not much in this genre makes me uneasy like that one does.

Lots of Hereditary compliments got me intrigued—I’m getting ready to watch now on Prime. I’m not the buff many on here are, but I’ve seen most of the others mentioned.

More recent films only, It Follows, Babadook & The Witch we’re all excellent IMO.
