National seed is dead. Oregon swept Ohio State on the road. I think that, combined with us losing 2 of 3 and Indiana dropping a game to Northwestern gives them the eighth national seed.

Clemson and Arkansas (and possibly us) must take care of business next week. They are dying to give South Alabama a host. It will come at the expense of Clemson, Arkansas or Mississippi State. It will be harder for them to give it to them over us if we win series against USC, because of our head to head over them. Arkansas slips up against a bubble Auburn and they could lose their host, especially if USC wins the series against us. If FSU were to sweep Clemson, that would do it as well.

Crazy how tight things are this year. They seem tighter than normal anyway, at least for the SEC host spots. Win 3 next week, and I think we're good. I think if we drop two to South Car, we're out.

I wouldn't want to go to Auburn next weekend with them fighting for a spot

in the tourney. They are playing well right now. Will LSU play it safe next weekend? I mean, they have second placed locked up and know they will be a national seed and are hosting. Ole Miss is fighting for position in the tourney. Us and USC no explanation needed.

I just don't see Arkansas hosting unless they sweep Auburn. I may be wrong, but losing 1 at home to Tennessee this weekend hurt their RPI even more than it already was.

As for us and South Alabama, I think if we win 2 of 3 we host...and if we don't then South Alabama hosts and we are their 2 seed. This would be a great scenario either way, because the next best thing to hosting would be to be the 2 seed in South Alabama's Regional.

We don't need the Bears pulling any crazy shenanigans and winning 2/3 in Red Stick. That would move them ahead of us in the pecking order in all likelihood.

I'm starting to think that Kansas State is going to take Arky's host spot. Auburn is on fire right now and I can see them winning that series at home.

KSU is going to win the Big 12, and the Southwest is getting a host spot one way or another.

If we sweep SC, we are definitely hosting. If we win 2/3, we likely will but we probably need a win or two in Hoover to be safe.

I don't see Arkansas hosting even if they sweep Auburn. Their RPI is currently #44. They killed their chances of hosting with all those mid-week losses.

I think South Alabama will probably host. Don't see the selection committee not letting a top-20 RPI small conference team host. Also don't see a 30+ RPI SEC team hosting, so Arkansas can just drop completely off the bubble and not even be listed. I think Clemson has to win 2 this weekend. If not, we'll probably see both MSU and USC host (unless either of us get swept).

If we win 2/3 against USCe, we host and so does USCe. Dropping 2/3 on the road and winning 1 is going to move their RPI about as much as ours did this weekend, which means it isnt going to move at all. Two SEC teams with winning records in conference play with RPIs of 10 and 11 will host.

And if the Bears go down and take 2/3 from LSU, they are going to make this situation very interesting and probably to the detriment of one of those Pac 12 schools.

Went to the game his year at USA and the flood of MSU fans for a regular season game shut down their ticket office and they had to just open the gates and let everyone in. No parking, little no concessions, it would be a hard road for them to host a 4 team Regional.

Maybe even if we lose 2 of 3 this weekend, the committee will let us host but just be a #2 seed in our own Regional. That way South Alabama gets a #1 seed, but our field is used to handle the crowds.

Just a thought. Do they allow that anymore or has a rule been created to where you can't host as a 2 seed?

The 2 seed host rule still exists. You see it a lot when schools that deserve a 1 seed don't have a field with lights or they just want to give a certain region a host spot even if no team deserves a 1 seed (Ohio State in 2001, we had to travel there as a 1 seed).

I never really thought about it in the situation of USA and us, but that could certainly come into play.

As long as we beat ORU, win 2/3 against SC, and don't lose to someone like Mizzou in Hoover, I'm thinking we host.

Pretty sure a #2 seed can host. I remember it being a real discussion with Purdue a couple of years ago as to whether they would be able to host as the #1 seed. I would be very surprised to see a major conference school host as a #2. I think the committee would be much more likely to send a major conference school on the road as a #1 than let them host as a #2 (see MSU-OSU that you mentioned and also Baylor-USM several years ago).
