From what I'm seeing on the Twitterverse, they are saying that South Alabama would need to lose tonight for us to move in ahead of Arkansas. That really makes me mad too. Ark will have a RPI close to 50 while we have one in the Top 10. Ark played all of the last place SEC teams at home, we didn't play any of the last place SEC teams at all. I just can't fathom a selection committee choosing a bad Arkansas team to host over a 40-win, attendance record breaking, Top 10 RPI, 5 SOS, and Top 20 ranking Dudy Noble Field.

If we do end up getting screwed this year and not hosting, Cohen, Stricklin and the gang better be all over the NCAA. Remember, last year we finished 16-14 in the SEC with a huge series win against UK and still did not host. That should say a lot.

Either way, wonderful, tough, gritty season for Cohen and the squad. I love MSU baseball..always have and always will. Even if we don't host, I think we will make it to Omaha. I'd rather not host and make it, than host and lose. Just saying.

Again I say, I don't see how we wouldn't host over the other crap job teams that they have already said are hosting but keep an eye on that South Alabama game tonight. That could determine it.

[SUB]I just can't believe Arkansas is even going to be on the table to host. I think they're closer to a #3 seed than they are to hosting. [/SUB]

Upig...

...finished the regular season with 35 overall wins, has an RPI of 47 & a SOS of 68 (all according to Nolan). This is the resume of a low 2 seed or a high 3 seed...not a regional host. Plus they ended their regular season with a whimper by going 1-2 vs. Auburn. Whomever you are conversing with on Twitter is feeding you a bunch of bulllshit.

We need to beat Mizzou. They have an RPI of 140 and might drop us a couple spots in the RPI with a loss. We don't need to give the committee any excuses. If we win that one I think we can quit worrying. I just hope it doesn't end up with us pitching a mid-week starter against their #1 pitcher.

Ideally it would be good for Arkansas to lose early in the tourney. A couple of wins against top 20 RPI teams like LSU, Vandy, MSU, South Carolina, or Ole Miss could move their RPI up 15-20 spots. Right now the Hogs have the worst RPI of any SEC team that MSU played at #47 and the 11th best RPI in a 14 team conference. That doesn't sound like a hosting resume at this point in time.

This... they only bested us in 2 categories... head to head (where we were on the road... early in conference play), and SEC wins (against a MUCH weaker schedule). Other than that, we have a much more impressive resume in every other stat that matters (total wins, RPI, SOS, Bad Losses, Midweek Wins, etc.). A blind look at the resumes and one would be a complete fool to pick them over us.

So is South Carolina considered a host?

They were swept by Arkansas and lost 2 out of 3 to MSU.

If the SEC gets 4, right now it seems it would be Vandy, LSU and 2 of these 3 ARK/MSU/USC. IF you go head to head and SEC record, ARK takes it. If you go RPI/SOS/SEC record/Overall Record, MSU takes it, assuming we take care of business Tuesday night. USC looks to be odd man out unless they make some serious noise in tourney, which they could very well do.

The committee will look at a lot more than just head to head... I don't at all understand how Arkansas can really be in the mix right now. Aside from SEC wins, their RPI, SOS, and total wins are far from what ours and USCe's is. If 615 throws a table together, we could see the enormous difference between those criteria. If it comes down to us and USCe, I imagine they get the nod considering their recent success in Omaha, etc., however, I just have a very hard time believing Arkansas is anywhere near us in the hosting talks right now.

I think the SEC gets 4 this year and the ACC gets 4. Top 2 conferences. Pac 12 probably gets 3. Big 10 gets 1 and Big 12 gets 1. That leaves 3.

If Arkansas is not a host, then we would have to be the 4th SEC host.

We need Arkansas (and Texas A&M) to stay in the top 50. I think it's kinda ******** that top 50 record is important to the committee (why not top 49 or top 52 or some other arbitrary number?), but it is what it is.

We're probably ok even if we do lose to Mizzou. But you're right that we need to win it to be sure. Either way, I don't see Arkansas hosting.

Bruiser, I believe USC is hosting.. I think there will be 4 SEC hosts...LSU, Vandy, MSU, and USC.

Coming into the weekend, Clemson was just outside of hosting, as was MSU. USC was on the good side of the hosting bubble at that point. So, with Clemson losing a road series and USC losing a road series, they should have stayed pretty much the same, and MSU moved to the good side. I see one of USC and Clemson hosting, and since both finished the same way but USC was a host going in to the weekend...I think USC gets the nod.

of course, all bets are off if either goes on a Conference tourney run while the other bows out early.

Just an update, if South Alabama loses tonight, I don't see a way that we don't host. But they are currently losing 2-0 to Troy after 2 innings.

It's 4-0 now....and I don't think that game means a thing to us since we won today. We are hosting. Ignore those twitter morons you're talking to.

It would make our top-50 record look better if Arkansas dropped out. We're 19-14 now. If Arkansas drops out, we'd be 18-12.

How are USA's baseball facilities? Are they actually good enough to host a regional? Mobile has plenty of hotels to accommodate most any size crowd, but I was just wondering if many would attend given that USA is not a particularly well-known sports school.
