i see lots of issues with accommodations and parking in various threads . How about the idea of neutral sites hosting the semis ? Maybe have sites like NIU, Northwestren, Soldier Field, Toyota Park, heck maybe Wrigley & Comiskey host the events. You could have 2 sites host the top four classes with the venues hosting 4 games apiece on Saturday like they do with the state finals. Thoughts ??

Too much natural grass round this town, but if they could do it, SF or RF at NU would be nice.

If the Fire werent such a subpar MLS franchise, I'd say no, but TP tends not to be in use at this time of the year, so why not. J-Mem and North Central are also relatively large-capacity options though odds would be that they would be an unofficial "home" game for somebody in most years. Would need to throw a bone to a farther downstate venue (EIU, SIU, WIU, a juco?) though, particularly in the lower classes.

NCC would be beautiful for a semis matchup. Have 5A-8A switch off every year between NCC/NIU and somewhere central- maybe Weslyan/UofI?

That would be awesome but how would the schools make money? The IHSA would have to rent out the stadiums and would probably get the commission from food, etc. I think it's better for the schools if they play at their home field, it's all about $$$$.

But it would be awesome if they would have it at Wrigley. Wish they would play more College or high school games there, even if you can only go one way.

IHSA rents it out. Get the gate, which they do mostly anyways. Schools split concessions.

Schools don't make much already on playoff gate so.....I believe IHSA still takes 80 percent of the gate.....please correct me if I'm wrong.

if you did this, you would also have to change the ridiculous way the IHSA decides who gets a home game in the playoffs.....one of their other arbitrary just make-up a rule, rule.

I am sure the corporations who normally run the concessions at the stadiums, would not be up for splitting their $. There may not even want to have concessions, may not be a $ making task.

Not necessarily. The home game rules would stay the same for the rounds prior to the semis.

It'll never happen, wish it would but I think it's fine the way it is anyway.
Just threw it out there as an idea. Be pretty cool to go to one venue and see four games in one day. I think it could generate good crowds if promoted the right way.

I think this is a great idea. I loved it when the Naperville schools played their games at North Central. Very cool. It's a really nice stadium, and you can go to the Lantern for a beer before!

Couldn't the home team just pick a venue? Like Gwest did when moving game to Gsouth? Or do you need a reason like poor field conditions to justify w ihsa?

Don't get me wrong, I'll about have a 3-4 game day at Wrigley, Soldiers Field, etc but I kind of like going to other teams stadiums and seeing the neighborhoods and atmosphere. It gives you a feel of what the school is like, etc. I do feel the state championships for 6A-8A should be at Soldiers Field or Wrigley Field. 1A-5A should be in Champaign or DeKalb.

Those ideas for finals at Soldier-Wrigley sound cool, but, I think these games go best in a 20-25K seat stadium.
I'm not sure what the attendance is at any specific point in time at the 5-8A championship day in Champaign, but that stadium has always felt kind of empty to me.
I'm thinking the attendance during any specific game is 8-12K??
More over the entire day, of course, but depending on weather a lot of 5-6A is gone by the time 8A plays.
Does anyone know real figures?

I know, you're right. Strictly going for the "cool factor" on the Soldiers and Wrigley idea. Plus I live in the city so it would be perfect for me. I think Wrigley is doable, imagine the scenery there, how cool would that be. You get most of the lower deck full, maybe.

Let's take a step back for a second, people were complaining last year that ticket costs of $5-6 were a problem and a reason a lot of people were staying home watching games on The Cube or NFHS. Imagine moving it to the city and adding a $40-45 parking fee. For more than one reason this is not a good idea. Neutral venues around the state sure...but let's be reasonable, WIU, SIU, EIU, or most sensibly ISU being central. Personally at the school's make sense to me.

Wait wait wait...people were complaining the tickets were $5-$6? Is that serious? I figured they would be $10 for the state championship game, heck I'd pay $20 and not have a problem with that. "C'mon man"

Wild,

Again take a step back, there are several families out there in both public and private schools skidding through life on a prayer. I agree that $5-10 could seem trivial to some but not so to others. Let's say you have a family of 5, at the still reasonable $20( you suggested) it just becomes $100 for tickets, $40 for parking, and you gotta eat, so let's say another $75. When you add it all up its pretty expensive for a High School football game.

I'm sure the schools involved would all run busses to the games and there's always public transportation. For those where cost is an issue they could do like my mother did when I was a kid going to games and pack loads of PBJ's.

Eireog,

There are plenty of other issues with the current playoff system that the IHSA has setup that need to be fixed. Let's get those problems addressed before we need to be moving games to costly(to IHSA, to Schools, and to families) neutral sites.

I agree but I think with a little work and a little imagination this too could be done without breaking most people's banks.

Actually Northwestern has a contract with the Cubs to play up to 5 more football games at Wrigley when renovations are completed.
The field and dugout out area is being reconfigured for football.

Kinda like the creativity that made NDCP the ESCC co-champs this year, and a 1st round out in the playoffs?

Seems like we talk about this subject every year but it is a good topic to discuss. Personally I like things the way they are. I say leave the neutral site to the final games.

North Park University nw side of Chicago has a turf field but only single stand for both home/visitors so things can get ugly under certain conditions. Went there for a couple of LA v Gordon Tech games back in the day. Pretty nice, beautiful city campus

Imagination or creativity had nothing to do with either. It's pretty sad that days before the biggest game of the season for Naz you feel the need to take cheap shots at NDCP .

Eireog,

It's a shame you had to take shots at Marist the day after NDCP lost their biggest game of the decade...does that mean NDCP is back in 6A next year with the multiplier removed?!

I took no shots at Marist. I gave my view of what I saw. It wasn't a sarcastic remark like you just posted. No if NDCP makes the playoffs next year they will be in 8A. Good luck to Naz Saturday.

Eireog,

I find your short memory interesting, here is a quote from another thread where you accuse Marist of "low Brow" behavior and the coaching staff of condoning such behavior. And yet you claim you took no shots...so much for your claimed high character.

"Exactly as I said it. Marist did the same low brow crap in game one before during and after that game . They did the same stuff last night that could have turned uglier had it not been for ND coaches, staff and security turning back most of the ND players , whom had already left the stadium for the locker room."

You are one simple thing, a discontent that wants to blame others and look down from "high position". You have inserted yourself into Naz discussions all season and clearly show your jealously or hate towards Naz. So what is your agenda and why the hate? I'm not lumping NDCP into the group here but rather you & TanDm who associates himself(s) with NDCP.

My point was not one of sarcasam, it was one of fact. NDCP has won one playoff game since 2003! It's not the kids, they are good kids and I have known several over the years...they are capable of more and deserve better.

Like I said that's my view of what I saw in the two Marist games. My opinion is the same today as it was then. I also congratulated Marist on their victory and wished them well the rest of the playoffs. I apologized to a poster that claimed his brother ( a Marist player) was the victim of verbal abuse by Notre Dame fans.
I'm not sure what Naz discussions I've inserted myself in but I can assure you that I have nothing but the utmost respect for your coach and team. Nazareth is a success story that I take pride in. I am a huge advocate of Catholic education and to see Naz doing so well in education and athletics gives me hope for the future of Catholic education.
If you want to hear me bad mouth Mike Hennessey or any of the Notre Dame coaches you'll have to look elsewhere. Mike embodies everything that a gentleman of Mary should. His win loss record will never match that of Lenti, Holocek or Racki but he has been a great coach in ways not measured in win percentages at NDCP for 30 years.
