How am I suppose to feel about MU?

If the SEC's plan was to add a team that culturally fits in (on and off the field) and make sure they felt a sense of belonging in the SEC, they did a really bad job. The first time the Missouri football team steps foot in Starkville will be 2020. How am I suppose to feel about them now? Especially when I already felt like they didn't belong anyway.

About the same as you felt about Arkansas & South Carolina 24 years ago. They're new. I get that. But after a while, you'l get used to it and it'll be no big deal.

Mizzou brings 2 top 30 TV markets -- that(by themselves) bring 2.2 million subscribers into the SECNetwork footprint. The state of Missouri is worth probably about $2.5million/yr minimum to both MSU and Ole Miss...

South Carolina, sure. But even they had a Heisman winner in the 10 seasons previous to them being added. Arkansas, they won 13 SWC championships!!!!!

I get it, money reigns supreme. It's altered everyone's landscape (none worse than the Big East), but if I had any hopes of "hating" MU (in the Arkansas, USC, or any other SEC team kind of way) they were flattened by the fact that 1) we'll go 5 years between our 1st and 2nd matchup 2) they won't visit Starkville until 2020!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's insane! The one chance I've had to encounter their fans was when like 200 of them bussed into Starkville their first year to watch their team play at the Hump. Obvious to us, it was possibly the worst time anyone could ever make an impression for MSU and they were outright obnoxious towards our fans. I saw 2 or 3 heckle a 100 year old fan to his face for getting up in the second half to leave after our 3 1/2 starters essentially gave up (think we lost by 40). That combined with hearing some of their fans (admittedly this was probably a small perfect of fans) complain about coming to the SEC instead of the B1G has left a bad taste in my mouth.

Just dumb. You're probably right. In 20 years it'll be business as usual. But now I have to wait 6 years to start that process.

How can you complain about Mo if you're in the SEC. We get a ton of extra TV money without adding another LSU, UF, Bama type program. If we could have frozen everybody in place I would have rather the SEC remained on top with 12 teams, but expansion was being pushed by other conferences as much and more than the SEC and adding A&M and Mo were about as good as MSU could hope for as far as adding more money without making it even more impossible to win.

They have over 30k students, massive markets in their state, and it is a damn cool place for a road trip. They also have had decent football and above average basketball for a long time. Thankfully they aren't as good in football as an LSU, BAMA, UF, or UGA.

If your biggest negative about them is they don't come to Starkville soon or often enough, then they must be a great addition to the conference. It isn't their fault we don't play them enough.

But to answer your question about your feelings:

Matt Eckert: You're getting pretty low on feelings, aren't you?
Jed Eckert: I can't afford them.

I agree with this, but both of those schools are better matches than Missouri and A&M. You'll never be able to sell me on Missouri. I was okay with the A&M cult only because that meant I didn't have to drive so far to see my team play, but they don't fit in either.

My negative isn't that we don't play them enough, although that's a part of it.

They're obviously the red headed stepchild of the Southeastern Conference, and while I want all the other SEC schools to lose every game we ever play against them... There's a sense of community between everyone's (nonbandwagon) fans. I feel nothing towards MU, except that the only thing they provide is being near 2 large cities. The fact that they're a part of the SEC is lost on me, because we don't even play them here until 2020. That's insane.

Well, you should feel the same way about Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, & Vanderbilt too then. Because we're going to be playing them exactly as often as we'll be playing Missouri. The alternatives are to go to a 9-game schedule (not good) or do away with permanent opponents in the opposite division (not gonna happen and not good for MSU since our permanent opponent is Kentucky).

People said the same thing about Arkansas and South Carolina 24 years ago too. Fayetteville is damn near in both Missouri and Oklahoma. Yes, both Missouri and Texas A&M are different than the rest of the conference. But it's not like schools like LSU, Florida, Kentucky, and MSU/UM/Bama/Auburn aren't pretty different already.

A year ago it was "Missouri was such a terrible addition. They'll rarely make bowls and never contend for a championship. Just another Kentucky."

Now it's "They won't come to Starkville until 2020 so they're a bad addition." Even though every East team other than Kentucky is coming to Starkville only once every 12 years from now on...

So you have no feelings toward a team we won't play often. I hope this isn't actually surprising. I still don't get fired up playing USCe. It is not consistent.

Answer honestly: Do you think that any school (other than USM) would be truly excited to be added to the SEC because MSU was one of the schools they would get to play? I doubt we'd make the top five for most schools and their fans.

Who was the better option for adding a 14th team? Texas and Oklahoma make too much money as the big dogs of the BIG12, and non of the good ACC teams are going to leave their conference for the SEC (it would be a lateral move really). So who does that leave......TCU? (meh), Central Florida? (meh), West Virginia? (meh), Southern Miss? (HECK NO) I think we did ok by getting Missouri. They weren't as exciting as adding Texas A&M, but they weren't a bad pick in my mind. Louisville might have been a better pick, but they probably fit in better with the ACC anyway. Clemson, Florida State, Virginia Tech, and Miami make plenty of money in the ACC, so I don't see them getting in a hurry to jump ship to the SEC. That might change in the future though...

Personally (and I know this isn't a popular pick) I would have liked NC State. They provide the same things MU offers but "fit in" with everyone else. I would still be bitching about them not being scheduled to come to Starkville until 2020, but they come without the Midwest feel.

What's done is done. Time to move on. Just ridiculous that I'll almost be 30 by the time a school we added my junior year at State actually comes to town.

No. They really don't. They're a distant 3rd in their state to UNC and Duke. I still think UNC and VA Tech will wind up in the SEC, but it won't happen for another 15 years or so.

They add the same market as UNC! Who isn't going to leave Duke.

Living in a neutral site I meet or see a **** ton of NC State fans or alum. Heck, my boss is one.

But we could argue this all day.
