How bad is the SEC East?

Makes me sick to my stomach to lose to Vanderbilt, who naturally got shut out at home last night, at least their 2nd SO loss this season.

But honestly, Missouri is really bad and South Carolina has their worst team in 16 years, Holtz' first season, and lost to a Div IAA team. Then Georgia is obviously a big disappointment, and nearly lost to another Div IAA team as well. Florida nearly lost to Fla Atlantic, who only won 2 games this year, and struggled against UK and Vandy.

Had we beaten VU, we would be bowl eligible, and more importantly, would have finished 4th in a 7 team division, which is real progress. Damn, UK is the program that never misses an opportunity to miss an opportunity.

Even if we had of finished 4th...would it really have meant much overall due to how bad the SEC East is (which was your theme of the post)? I agree it is frustrating that we did not take advantage of the down SEC East. It won't be down for long so better get on that next year.

Yes it would have made a HUGE difference overall. We would have momentum, be bowl eligible with a good bowl game, we wouldn't be worried about recruiting falling apart and we would have MOJO that is needed.

The sec east is as bad as I can rememeber it. The 2007 UK team would have steam rolled through it and played in the playoff if this was the competition. It's sad we cannot compete in the east in a down year like this. It shows stoops won't make it.

It really looked to be a year the Cat's could make a move. Definitely not your typical year for the SEC east. It's a lost opportunity. Still, should Florida beat FSU and Alabama, something very, very unlikely for sure they could if it all played out for them sneak their way into the playoffs. So it holds true that if you win the SEC east, and the title game your assured an excellent chance at the playoff. Florida's got a lot to play for. We to do, but wouldn't it be nice if it were on the big stage. We can keep hoping and dreaming I guess.

The 2007 UK team would probably not have beat Alabama....so no they would not have been in the playoff if you played them into this year's UK schedule. They still would have had to contend with a solid MSU team and a solid FL team in the regular season as well.

Solid Florida team? They are no better than the other teams in the east this year.

I think they'd get close. Maybe not get top 4 but it would be close.

Offensively it was awful, some of the worst if not the worst qb play in D1 football, the only teams with decent qb play was UT and UF, UK comes in 3rd in terms of qb production and people were wanting him pull all season. Missouri had to bench and finally suspend their starter for violating team rules, SC never really settled on one. Vandy's was horrible, worse than ours and I didn't think that was possible.

Next year, UT and UF will be the favorites, or co favorites to win the East, both are returning productive qbs and they should be better, though UF's will be the 2nd half of the season, no idea what Vandy or USC will do at qb, UK will have one who has started and we are likely going to start a true frosh, if we don't if Richt makes it through the season and trots Lambert back out as the starter next year he might get fired between warmups and kickoff. If we don't change coaches, defensively we will be pretty goods, offensively we have to improve, the last 5 games we have scored 6 offensive TD's and won 4 of them and will return at least 7 starters defensively, 2 LB and 2DL are what we are losing, we return 2 LB who have played about 50% of the snaps and 2 DL who have played about 25% of the snaps. Offensively I lose a lot, hopefully our starting qb.

OMG, I just saw the stats on the A&M game v. Vandy, they were held to <150 yards and 23 yards passing. Dores have scored 10 points or less in 5 of their last 6 games, including two shutouts, naturally Kentucky being the exception. And that doesn't even count an early season 14-12 loss at home to the always tough defensive minded Western Ky Hilltoppers.

Good grief . . .

As I said last week, UK is probably the only school in college football which could turn a shouldabeen 35-7 win into a loss. Smh.

The Division has been down for several years. Missouri has won the last couple of years and they have not been very good. Hell, Indiana beat them last year. It's a damn shame UK couldn't take advantage, because I think Tennessee and Florida will be trending upward going forward.

And, A&M's defense has been ATROCIOUS this year. Good enough to shut out Vandy, of course, but very bad in nearly every other game. OTOH, our defense didn't cost us the game. Pick 6. 3-yard drive. That's 14 points. Brain fart on trick play was really the only thing the D caused. Horrible field position the entire game and the inability to score from 1st and goal inside the 5 TWICE is what cost us that game.

UK lost to Vandy because of a full demonstration of one of the most inept attempts at coaching ever witnessed in SEC history, including personnel decisions, play calling, preparation and adjustments.

Sadly UT is in a position to dance thru the SEC next year. Great schedule, including Bama at home.

There's still a chance to start throwing hay makers in the East. I just don't see anyone in the division setting the woods afire within the next couple of years. Butch Davis can't get out of his own way, and McElwain is probably going to come crashing to earth starting in Atlanta. The East is weak and wide open. We certainly have a lot of work to do take advantage, though.

I have to agree....this was a complete meltdown by Stoops and his staff.

Worst offense in this league since Sylvester Croom was manning the sidelines at M-State.

Florida, Auburn, and Vanderbilt were all game we gave away and this coaching staff didn't step up and face reality until Charlotte. I hope they learned something about the definition of insanity this year. I'm still 100% behind them but I can also see like our players they are inexperienced also.

Unfortunately UT is going to be e very good next year, they should be a 1 loss team, or maybe undefeated this year, they led Bama late in the 4th quarter and had 2 score leads in with 10 min to go in their other losses, 2 of which are in the running for the 4 playoff spots. Wouldn't surprise me to see them go undefeated in the East next year, as long as Dobbs is healthy. UF will likely be better but may not have the luck of this year, UGA has no qb on campus and will depend on a true frosh which means turnovers and losses, USC and Mizzou will have new coaches and new systems. Vandy could be better. So UK is sitting pretty for next season, SEC East won't be as weak for awhile as it will be next year with only 2 better than average teams most likely. If UK doesn't take advantage of that season the following year will be a rough one.

Agree on all counts, but from the UK standpoint the same could and probably should be said for this year,UF has a much better record than the team they have. Will Chubb and Michel still be at UGA?

Yes, both are soph this year, Chubb will be coming off a serious knee injury. I don't think many of our fans knew just how good he really was until our offense went in the toilet after he was injured. I don't think he will be the back he was at the beginning of the year, maybe not ever. But he is a super kid, I wouldn't be too disappointed if he sat next year out and went to the NFL, give himself time to really be healed and not come back too quick, hate it for UGA but not for Chubb. I don't want him to be another Marcus Lattimore.
