How disappointed will you be if we don't get Cam Newton?

So my hopes aren't exactly sky high.

/Also, I am not under the impression that he will be the savior for our program.

It's just one player. The hype on this guy is so huge, he'll never live up to it. Mullen is not Croom - he understands our QB situation, and he'll go out and get the best guy(s) he can, and won't put all his eggs in one basket. So if we don't get him, I don't care, we'll be ok.

After the Egg Bowl, I was as wooly as ever. Now not so much. I don't think we need Newton to go to a bowl next year, because I think we can do it with a Russell/Relf combo, but I think Newton is the guy that helps us pull off the upset of one of those upper tier SEC schools. There is nothing better than having a QB that can burn you with his feet, and make every thrown on the field. We came close this year to Florida and LSU with a far les talented team. With Newton at QB, I think we upset someone we arent supposed to and have a chance at 7 and 5, maybe 8 and 4. With Russell/Relf, we go 6 and 6, maybe 7 and 5.

Obviously, I'll be at least disappointed if we don't get him. But, knowing we'll be better off next year at QB regardless of Newton coming or not (Russell/Relf), I could end up happy if if we pick up a solid HS guy. And by solid HS guy I mean Brunetti or possibly Mason. If Favre is the the scholarship QB we bring in next year, we have a major FAIL at QB recruiting this year. I think everyone is letting the name Favre get in the way of reasonableness. He is not a good fit for our offense. Just look at him:

He's a boy amongst boys. If we can convince him to walk-on, I'm okay with that. But, I don't want another Fur Boy or Lee having to be an option down the road.

we have a shot at landing a 6'6 250 QB with Florida caliber talent. You are an idiot if you DON't care.

there should be no question that we are going to bowl next year. I have faith in Mullen but with Newton's help he turns MSU around quicker thats why I want him so bad.

We have a Very good running QB (Which we've seen this year). We have a good Throwing QB that redshrited on the sidelines all year. If you get Newton, GREAT!, OUTSTANDING!, we could sure use him. If we dont, Fine, We're OK, we play the Russell/Relf option like with did with Lee/Relf.

Alot of ppl have said that Russell is not real equipped for the way we run our offense. SO WHAT! He has had a whole year to addapt to our offense. If he's as good as we all think he is, he can adapt.

I think we are in good shape, Newton or No Newton.

I would love to see us next year having Relf and Russell on the field at the same time.....Russell at QB and Relf as a back or a tight end on some plays, He has the size!

I'll be disappointed if we don't get him. I think we will be fine w/out him, but I think he has big star potential starting next season. I don't think any other QB's on our team have that yet. Russell can eventually be great, but I don't expect that out of a freshman. Newton is a top talent at QB and he already has some good experience. This guy can get us to the next level much quicker I think.

We can only hope your fanbase will give us some gems like ours gave over the Brent Schaeffer decision.

ETA: Come to think of it, Brent Schaeffer, Juco AA QB, was the jewel of Orgeron's second signing class. Cam Newton, Juco AA QB, could be the jewel of Dan Mullen's second signing class.

See Dan Mullen = Ed Orgeron.

Also, Dan Mullen is white, puts his pants on one leg at a time, has dark hair, wears shoes in public, has a big caveman head (literally), coaches football, and has two eyes, a nose, and a mouth, all things that sound a lot like Ed Orgeron. See, I told you.

Me neither, and the key difference between Newton and Schaeffer is that Newton would be coming in to play in the right system. Put Schaeffer in a spread option like Florida's or WVU's, and he'd have been great. We put him in a pro style offense, and the rest is history.

I just thought I'd pull the Mullen = Orgeron card out since it's so popular.

this "Schaeffer would have been a good QB in the right system." He was a complete 17-up that didn't even get his *** to campus until 2 weeks before the season started. I've never seen a recruit who was slated to start care so little about getting ready to play. Maybe the right coach could have gotten him a little more motivated, but I don't think any coach or system is going to get real effective QB play when their QB doesn't show up until mid-August.

It'd be great to have Newton, and then Relf with experience and Russell backing him up. But even if we don't, I think we will still be better than this past year. Playing so many younguns, they can only get better with experience. Like someone already said, we were || this close to winning a couple more big games with the young and undeveloped talent we had this year, and I truely believe we can only get better with the added experience. Relf/Russell combo is without a doubt an upgrade from last year. Relf with more experience and hopefully a good spring, and Russell who is undoubtably an upgrade from Lee however he performs. I'd love to get Newton because that will help us even more, but since I'm a MState fan, I will believe it when I see it. (with regards to Newton getting on campus)

......rather the fact that MSU still couldn't sign a high prospect quarterback with a new coach who came from a two-time national championship team and has a history of developing QBs. Sure, we got Russell last year, but Russell is one of those rare quarterbacks from Mississippi who fits in that category and wanted to go to MSU before Mullen even arrived. Mississippi unfortunately doesn't produce good QBs normally. So if Mullen can't get a guy this year, then it likely means one thing: Until we start winning, we're going to have to make due with walk-ons, 2-star wanna be guys, and possibly more midgets.

That's true, though he never stood a chance in our system anyway. He had other issues as well, but the system was never going to let him succeed.

Newton WILL be a bulldog. I swear it. AND if I am wrong, then DS, SESH, HD6 or whoever may banish me from SPS.
