How do we handle dak

I would love for the kid to get heisman attention. It's well deserved or so I think it will be. Just curious how we manage him in games when we are up by 20-40 points against some of the easier teams early in. Do we let him pad his numbers more? Set him out and let the young qb crew get some time while rests? Just barring old luck I'd like to see him dominate, get a lead and not play in the throwaway mins. An injury would kill his hopes and ours of competition for sec title. Thoughts?

Heisman attention doesn't come from padding stats. Maybe we should all write a letter to ESPN to let them know that Dak is a Heisman candidate.**

I would rest him. LSU and Auburn will be when the light shines the brightest first half the year. Get him ready for those games.

You ignore the Heisman hype and play him virtually every meaningful snap the entire season and pull him from the games that are out of hand and let the younger guys get some snaps. Whether he emerges as a legitimate Heisman candidate will depend a lot more on how he performs in the Bama, LSU, Auburn, A&M and UM games than what he does or doesn't do in the 4th quarter of meaningless blowouts.

yep, but I honestly don't think we are going to be losing much when we put the

other guys in the game so resting him more than normal suits me fine, especially if the Defense is as advertised.

Personally,

I would hope our coaches are more worried about winning games than Dak winning the Heisman. I'm sure Dak feels the same way, too.

There is no real chance of him winning this year. The hype is good for him, it can translate into him getting a good shot at the pros early or if he stays it can propel him into real contention next year. Short of the TEAM seriously contending for the SEC Title he is not going to have a shot this year. That being said, play him when you need him, rest him when you don't. If he gets taken out for the season at the end of a blowout game Dan will look like the biggest idiot on the planet.

Win the SEC championship and he'll win the Heisman running away.

I think an invitation is a very good goal for him and the program. MSU doesn't have to make the CFBPlayoffs for him to get an invite to NYC.

Somebody needs to start printing a bunch of 'Dak For Heisman' bumper stickers.**

So you agree there is no real chance of him winning....

If we only win the games we are supposed to win then no, he wont. Maybe if he has a Clowney like moment that captures the nation's attention, and the rest of the Heisman field is pretty lack luster. But even then it's probably not enough. Only shot is to win the SEC. There is a chance we can pull that off, but its a small chance. We are going to lose a few games most likely, so the standings would have to shake out like 1998 where a bunch teams start losing to each other in order for us to slip into Atlanta. I'd love to see it happen, but history hasn't been on our side with these things.

Players from 7-8 win teams don't win the Heisman.

Also, how many times have we been up 30 in a game under Mullen?

Last I checked we let the Kentuckys & Bowling Greens of the world hang around with us well into the 4th quarter.

We will win more than 8 games this fall.

Glad you are that confident about it but my State fandom tells me otherwise. 7-8 is our most likely scenario. I simply can't be confident that we will win at least 5 out of LSU, Bama, Auburn, Vandy, OM, Ark, TAMU, and Kentucky. Ark and KY are the most likely with Bama and LSU the least likely. The others are much closer games than we'd like to think.

Hopefully we are picked to win at least two of the remaining 4. We sure do like to meet Vegas's expectations and not exceed them.

We will know where we are after the LSU game. This year's LSU squad is beatable even if it is at their house. Win that, and we'll know we have something different than what we've had in the past.

We've got 4 SEC home games. Is it too much to ask them to win @ home? Then pick up a road win. It should be a good thing that winning at home - with a favorable schedule - will determine whether this team is good or just average. But it's sad that we haven't won a meaningful game @ home in forever other than the Egg Bowl.

Codedawg, I agree 100 percent. Lsu is primed for the taking. Winning that game on the road puts us in a different atmosphere.

We will definitely be different if we can get the LSU 10k lb monkey off our back. I won't be expecting it. Please Don Mullens, prove me wrong.

That's likely going to be an ESPN night game. Care to guess how many of those Les Miles has lost in Death Valley in his career and to whom? I agree that we have a chance in that game -- but it's important to be mindful of that part. AND it'll be the first big night game in the 103k seat DV...

We win that one -- and we're not pretenders anymore...

Vandy's going to suck this year, so add them to the win list. Also 2 from A&M, Auburn & Mississippi.

LSU will challenge for the West title again this fall. They've lost a lot the last couple of years, but under Les Miles, they don't rebuild, they reload. Not saying we couldn't win it, but that will be one of the two toughest games of the season.

I can't fathom how anyone with even one functioning brain cell would entertain the idea of us beating LSU ...in Baton Rouge ...at night.

We've lost 14 straight.

If your child is a freshman in high school, he or she wasn't alive the last time we beat them. Think about that.

Unfortunately, beating LSU doesn't automatically guarantee that you will win 10-12 games. All you have to do is look at OM to see the truth in that. OM frequently beats LSU (3-3 in the last 6)and although it has helped lead to bowl eligibility is doesn't mean you automatically win 9,10, or 11 games. I hate LSU though so I hope you guys really do beat them and I hope they lose every game.
