because he is able to work with them and make them into such high quality players. See Marcus Campbell and Wesley Morgan!!

what would you have said had stansbury passed on the opportunity to sign a guy that cincy had, duke was interested in pre-injury, and the NBA scouts have touted pre-injury?

obviously reik is a project, but comments like this just show that you'll ***** about anything. i can see it now, "stansbury is so stupid! he didn't sign a 7 footer that duke wanted!"

He may never be more than a 7' tall 7'8" wingspan body with 5 fouls to give, but the reward if he does pan out as an upper classman is worth the scholarship.

What I don't understand is why we had starters on the court till under a minute left, up by almost 20. And we complain about those guys playing too many minutes. Stansbury has said he wants to get Riek more playing time... yet today in basically a blowout win at home, we play JV for almost 35 minutes but Riek & Lewis for less than 5 combined.

that Keyshawn was really coming to MSU. I dont think all of those programs were that interested. The NBA possibly, due to height only - see Manute Bol. But seriously, knee injury -whatever, the dude cannot run at all. He makes Wesley Morgan look like Bill Walton. Kidding aside, I am 5'11 and I could school Riek's *** all day long. So could half the guys at the Sanderson center.

The second coming of Wesley Morgan. Hopefully he won't stick around as long as Wesley did.

Seriously, watching Riek has to be the most painful thing I've ever seen on a basketball court outside of me trying to hit a 3. I would've liked to have seen Riek go into this game more, mainly because LSU never really headed us and it would've given Varnado some rest.

Right now, John Riek makes Marcus Campbell and Wesley Morgan look like Bill Russell and Bill Walton. However, here's to hoping that he can work out and somehow get better. I seem to remember that Varnado didn't look all that swift his freshman year.

You must be really good. I would like to see this. Not only could you beat him, but you could school him. Do you honestly think this? I'm only wondering because you threw your height in there.Sorry if I missed your sarcasm.

Watching him play you would seriously think that during mid-game, Stans just walked up in the stands, looked around for a tall guy, and said, "You, come down and play center for us." Riek doesnt have a clue on the court. I agree with the 5'11" guy who said he could school him... It wouldnt be that hard.

he's got something most players in the country don't have - that 7'8" wingspan - and I for one agree with Stans that it was worth taking a chance on. He's obviously not recovered from knee surgery yet, but he looks to be giving good effort when he's in the game. I'm hoping he's working that hard off the court so he's 100% next year, because we need a big presence inside and we certainly need more people willing to defend and get rebounds.

for a guy that is coming off a major knee injury. The NBA had this guy rated very high prior to his injury and he showed out a Lebron's camp. He was alsosuspended for several games and doesn't speak English very well. Give him a year or two of rehab, coaching and in the weight room.
