ESPN3 blacked out in MS and AL, but available on PPV if I recall

correctly. My question is will Hotspot Shield still allow you to avoid the ESPN3 blackout??

Time for the schedule to upgrade...

It sucks in that if we play a good team we can watch it on TV for free. If we play these lower level teams, we have to pay $40 to watch it. I just don't see the plus in playing these teams from this point forward for Dan. We need to play good competition each week so we can compete with the guys we have to compete with. Playing more than one warmup type game does them no good.

I did read that you will be able to watch it on ESPN3 later. It is only blacked out live.

Got an email from HailStateTV today

You can watch it through them on a PPV basis, but I didn't click the button to sign up because I'm going to the game. Don't know what the charge is.

As part of the conference’s current arrangement, each team is permitted to televise one football game each season on pay-per-view. Some schools take advantage of that and others don’t. A pay-per-view game at one of the top SEC schools can generate around $750,000 for the rights holder.

Ala vs Fla. Atlantic game is also a PPV game this weekend. MSU is not the only one doing it.

It is a good question... I have much experience with Hotspot shield but using it differently than you do.

From my experiences this season ESPN3 has it figured out and no longer relies simply on the I.P. address to grant access to the site. They are also pulling information on who the ISP is. After repeated emails with Tech support from both Hotspotshield and HideMyAss I have been told by them directly that their services, even the paid versions, will no longer grant access to ISP restricted sites such as ESPN3. But they do continue to grant access to sites like Hulu for those of us outside the U.S. of Obama.

Slightly off topic... if you routinely use services like hotspotshield, give the free version of proXPN a try. Much less loss of bandwidth in my experience and I am able to stream video at almost identical speeds as I do when not using it.

Whatever happened to the SEC Network that was supposedly in the works?

Every game, every week on TV. Or is this what we have? Not much of a network if you have to buy PPV or subscribe to one of the five ISPs to get ESPN3.

Gulf coast dawg espn gameplan is suppose to be blacked out in Mississippi but looking at the blackout map it shows most of Hancock county as not being blacked out for our game.

Will there be an HD option on Comcast? The only one I see looks to be SD. And I'd rather not talk to a Filipino on the phone about it...

The point is that it's almost a sure win. 4 of these and you only have to win 2 more to go to a bowl. As long as the SEC is what it is there is no freaking need to schedule tough OOC opponents. When we start winning 5 or so SEC games a year THEN upgrade the OOC.

Dish Game Finder is showing our game on Channels 466 (Game Plan) and 467 (individual PPV) and neither is in HD. 467 is $39.99.

What are the chances they play it?

Depends on where you are. My guess is that if you ask, most BW3s will carry the game (via game plan). In MS, I would be surprised if they couldn't get the pay per view broadcast on one tv (especially Tupelo/Starkville).

To consistently win 5 SEC games a year you need to be better prepared. You don't get better by playing teams that don't belong on the same field as you. You need competitive teams to get better. I understand the first game for a bit of a warmup and maybe even homecoming for a lower level team. But you need to have games that mean something and put pressure on you. So when you face an Alabama or LSU, you have already been tested and persevered.

I understand it is a formula to a bowl game, but I think MSU should want more than that. That was the theory of MSU Basketball through all the Stansbury years and any time they were on a bubble all that weak competition hurt their chances. When I played Baseball at State, we played the best teams in the country that we could for our ooc games, We played Hawaii when they were number 1, We played Arizona, we played Oklahoma State, we played Arkansas (not in the SEC in those days). Yes we also played some lower level teams, but playing the better competition made us ready for the tournaments at the end of the year and I went to the CWS twice.

Last week's game was a road game, so it was under the Sunbelt TV contracts. That's why it was only on ESPN3. The SEC schools are allowed to have 1 PPV game per year under the current contract. That's why this week's game is PPV.

You can't try to compare football to baseball. And especially not to baseball 30 years ago. Back when you played, we played in a **** baseball conference. The problem with scheduing tougher OOC games is that we can't, and may never be able to, count on being a good team 4+ years down the road. That's the kind of thinking that got us 6 losses to Oregon, GA Tech and West Virginia in the last decade, and kept us from a bowl game in 2009. And got Mississippi destroyed by Texas last week. It doesn't matter who we play, when we play LSU and Bama they're going to kick our *** because they are just that good right now.
