MTSU had a great year this year. He has MSU ties, has recruitingcontacts in the southeast, and would probably keep the coaching transition from Stans pretty painless. The only downside is he is 52 years old and probably in the tail end of his head coaching career. I could see him only working the job for 4 or 5 years.

If I were Stricklin I would let Marshall and Smart be the first to turn it down (many think S Carolina will go aggressively after Marshall bc he is form that area) . I would then go after Kermit Davis then after that Sean Woods.

Kermit Davis is a less successful version of Stans.<div>
</div><div>He has a 57% winning percentage in 10 years at MTSU (counting wins against DII and NAIA schools). In the 9 previous years, they lost to the worst team in D1 twice, and underachieve continually. He has no NCAA appearances. They choked away a NCAA bid this year with 2 terrible losses to end the season.</div><div>
</div><div>The only reason they got above 20 wins this year (1st time in a decade at MTSU) was because transfer LaRon Dendy from Iowa State turned out to be the Sun Belt POY. When he is gone, they will be back to the usual 17-14 season against terrible schedules.</div><div>
</div><div>Before this year, attendance had dropped for 4 straight years and 4/5 of the fan base, including myself, wanted him fired 3-4 years ago. He cannot take MTSU to the NCAA 1 time through the Sun Belt and he choked away his chances and he would be less successful at MSU than Stansbury was. </div><div>
</div><div>Hell No to Kermit Davis at Miss. State.</div><div>

I'm sure Kermit is a nice guy. But if we hire him something has gone terribly wrong.

Templeton would probably hire Kermit Davis.
He has MSU ties, has recruitingcontacts in the southeast, and would probably keep the coaching transition from Stans pretty painless.
This is classic Templeton thinking. NONE of those things matter at all in picking a coach to hire. They might be an added bonus to break a tie if 2 candidates were equal, but that's it. Ashley is right. He won't get an interview, or if he does it will be just a courtesy.
