How exactly does recruiting work from a coaches standpoint?

I casually follow recruiting but have noticed it's obviously a huge and essential part to many posters on here so maybe I can get some insight from you guys. From a coaches standpoint, how exactly does recruiting work? Do we have grad students or special recruiting coaches that go through film of all these players then tell the bigger coaches (head, DC, OC, etc) who to bring in and then they watch tape on them and offer, or do our higher level coaches do all this by themselves and pick who they want to see and bring them in? It just seems like it would be a never endless process to go through all the high school football prospects trying to determine who we want to offer on top of all the other stuff coaches have to do (like coach). Also, do we have one coach who is just our "ace" recruiter. I know Brewster was supposed to be that guy but since he left I haven't heard much from it. Wish we held on to him. Thanks

Good question. I located this juco Guard with lots of talent committed to TCU. A Dallas cowboys OT saw him practice and said he has sunday talent. Offers from OU, Texas, Ok St, among others. I happen to know some of the coaches, and bs'ing with them over a beer found out he wants to play in the SEC strongly, and would rethink the situation given an offer. I even heard Bama is onto him. Emailed some tape of him to Koennig and Hevesy....non responsive. I don't know the kid at all, but I hear he has a top notch attitude to go with his talent. I assume they get e-mails from yahoo's like me all the time though.

Here's all you need to know about recruiting. Mullen finds a five star and gets him to commit in may. In January freeze talks him into an ov and after a night at the library and a duffel bag of cash the five star flips the week before signing day and everyone here loses their minds.

. . . . after all that, Mullen gets put on NCAA probation.

Haven't you seen The Blindside? You videotape your adopted son excessively blocking and burn it to a DVD and send it to Nick Saban, Phil Fulmer, Ed Ogeron, and Lou Holtz. Come on, man.

Freeze & company identify each recruit's "champion", the person that can most influence a recruit. Might be a parent, a girlfriend, coach, best friend, a car dealer, etc. That champion is recruited as harder or harder than the recruit.

For CJ Johnson, it was a new Z-71 truck. For Channing Ward, it was house and job for mama.

For Will Redmond it was a mustang and $200.

This is just me, but when you've been on probation twice in the last decade I wouldn't accuse others of cheating. Glass houses and ****.

apparently, you draw cans of swag on copy paper with a sharpie, send them out, and wait for the blue chip commits to roll in.

How can you possibly expect to get that special someone back to your house with promises of "Just the Tip"? You have to go "All In", and then deliver on said promise. This is the real secret to recruiting.

Am I doing this right?
