How good is Rodney Hood?

I saw him as a sophomore in high school and I told anyone who would listen, he was going to be highly recruited his senior year. I saw him as a senior in high school and I told anyone who would listen, that he was the most fundamentally sound high school basketball player I had ever seen.<div>
</div><div>I am so glad he became a Bulldog. If there was any part of his game to criticize, it would be his aggressiveness, but that is likely to come as he gets more and more experience at the college level.</div>

The only weakness I see right now is his free throw shooting but I am sure that will improve. Hood is the most fundamentally sound player I have ever seen at MSU. He is like a much more talented Shane Power without theawesome hair.

That dribble in, spin move, fade away that Hood does is unstoppable.

beyond. With that said I think he may be the best we have ever had before his is finished if he stays a couple more years.

Agreed. That move is devastating.

I also like the way he went up and under the defender to get a shot on the basket on a play late in the game. He has several moves to get open mid-range jumpers.

That's the advantage he has from having parents who played the game. I was thinking about it last night, and I wouldn't have known about that part of the game coming out of high school. I would have been like every other kid. Working on my dribble, my threes, defense and maybe free throws. I might have known a little bit from coaching, but that mid-range part of the game would not be nearly as highly developed as Rodney Hood's is.

He is the best true freshman i have ever seen at ms state. he moves around the court like a seasoned veteran and his pull-up jumper is basically unstoppable. this guy could seriously be a one and done if we make some noise in the postseason and he is showing out. even getting two years out of him would be huge.

best mid-range pull up jumper i've seen at msu. that's a shot that a lot of NBA guys don't even have anymore.

Hood seems mature in more ways than one. After the drama we've had with twitter, fighting, etc., isn't it nice to seem a sumbitch shut his mouth and play ball. I haven't read one jackass thing about Hood or by Hood.

DJ Gardner gets booted, Kodi and Ravern tweet ****, Dee suspended twice for half a season, Renardo and his troubles, Elgin fighting.

Hood just shows up and plays. He scores, he defends, he rebounds, he passes, he handles the ball, he leads. When you watch him play, it's hard to believe he is only a freshman.

Discovered per tweet from Marcello that Hood is on Twitter. Hood tweeted that he made the dean's list this semester.

Excellent.

best midrange shot of anyone that I can remember, from State, in a while. It's hard to believe he's just a freshmens.

where he has the two wings stand out pass the three line and wait for Bost to get done dribbling, he has had to create most of his own shots. He has proved he can do that. Would like to see him get some movement plays run for him to isolate.

I would like to see him throw down a dunk one of these days. I can tell he has the athletic ability to get up, he just lacks aggressiveness going to the rim. The reason I think he is such a bad FT shooter is because he only takes one trip to the line and splits the pair, probably a bit nervous. If he could get there more often he would get comfortable with it fast.

Other than that he has been amazing though. I think he is outplaying a lot of the over-hyped freshman this year. Doubt he will go pro this year unless he has an amazing tourney. His body just isn't NBA ready and the draft is deep this year so I don't think he would be able to crack the lottery. I see him potentially doing what Gordon Hayward did during his Butler years.

...probably helps us keep him at least one more season. If he'd been a freshman last year, I think there's a solid chance he'd have been a one-and-done.<div>
</div><div>Of course, if he keeps improving and leads us to the Elite Eight, all bets are off.</div>

get to a 10 he needs to be 50% from the three point line area and 30% from half court**. Hell, Lebron makes it look easy.

his height combined with his athleticism and left-handed shot make him able to shoot open mid-range shots anytime he wants. I think with 10-15 pounds of muscle and a more aggressive attitude he can be Calbert Cheaney reincarnated. He's not going NBA after this year or next unless something crazy happens like we win the National Championship.
