How I feel about today

I don't know about anyone else, but I think I felt like the legendary Bill Walsh when he had Steve DeBerg at QB and a rookie named Joe Montana in the wings. Walsh stated that during that year- I think they won something like 3 games, DeBerg would make a mistake, or not make a play and think, "Joe would have made that play."

Watching Tyson Lee and our offense there a ton of times when I think- "Man, Cameron Newton would have made that play". And if Tyler Russell is the QB next year, so be it, but I really hope we land Newton. I think he will make a huge difference for us.

Now, why Walsh wouldn't play Montana at the time, I don't know, but unfortunately we don't have the option to play Newton since he isn't on the team.

To Hogan's Hero's firing the cannon right before a MSU FG- you're idiots. After today, I really think it's time to do away with the cannon. Seriously, it's gotten lame. It has been lame ever since the cool big *** cannon "made" someone have a heart attack. I know we have a military history as a college, but that's in the past. I would say that very few of the people that attend football games did the mandatory ROTC stuff back in the day. No one else in the SEC fires a cannon, and I just think it's time to let it go.

As far as the officials, there is no doubt in my mind that they had an agenda today. Which brings me to this point- why aren't there NCAA officials and why do the officials have to be affiliated with a conference? MSU is not the only ones that have been screwed over by another conference's officiating crew- Oregon/Oklahoma game a few years ago. Conference officials make way less sense than the BCS, in my opinion. Just have NCAA officials and then send them around the country. I would miss Steve Shaw, Rocky Goode, and Penn Wagers- not- but the fact that I even know who these people are should raise a red flag. Also, it would give the NCAA even MORE power. They would love that, I'm sure.

Now as far the schedule:

Dear LT,

If there is any justice at all in the world, the SEC front office job that you are kissing *** for and have been for your entire life, should be given to someone else. And may you never, ever, ever, get that job.

Love,

cusa protected houston today. Reminds me of byu a few years back. This **** needs to stop because among other things, it makes the whole game of college football look fixed. Did I just say that? On the other hand, could we possibly turn the ball over anymore than we do? I can't wait for basketball to start.</p>

....the only people qualified to be doing the DPR on the field EVER are the people wearing the football uniforms.

The band doing the DPR is gay. It was gay ten years ago, and it's still gay today. If you're presently IN the band, and participated in that travesty, you should be ashamed of yourself. Don't let me catch you doing it again.

Wasn't that at the end of the season because of 9-11? That was the worse officiating ever.

I've forgive you this one time, but no more, for comparing our team to a west coast offense.

But seriously, what's wrong with our schedule? We have our permanent West opponents and we have East opponents that rotate. LT schedule Oregon, West Virginia, Georgia Tech, and Houston at times when they weren't world-beaters or at least footnotes for being some kind of national leaders at any particular phase of the game. Blame the burial ground on where you're going with this.

I say we get some beer and shovels and excavate whatever the 17 is below Scott Field.

If you have ever been to a game at LSU, Auburn, etc., our band is awful. I wish Byrne had the authority to make a change with that leadership. They are completely irrelevant during the game, and when they take the field pre-game it barely registers for anyone, whereas at LSU the whole stadium completely stops.

I don't know what kind of music department LSU has, but I know the one at MSU is quite unspectacular. Its just not a focal point for the university.

While those teams are not world beaters, they still have the potential to be losses, even if those teams were down. Now, I don't mind competition by any means, but it's utterly stupid for a program that is consistently going 3-9 every year with the exception of one anomaly- and our non-conference schedule that year included Tulane, UAB, and Gardner-Webb, which were ALL wins- to schedule games that are potentially difficult. If you are in the SEC, there is not need to play high quality OOC opponents because you're forced to play Bama, LSU, Ole Miss, Auburn, etc. every year. When you're winning three games a year, you need something to put your team in a position to where they can rebuild to get to the level where they can play the West Virginia's. Scheduling Oregon and Georgia Tech home and home is not the way to do that. If you get four very winnable non-conference games, that puts you 2/3 of the way to a bowl. We win two SEC games- something that Croom accomplished three out of his five years as a coach, including the year he got fired- and we go to a bowl. And no, I'm not all that up for going to Birmingham, but bowls are very important because of the extra practice time that the team gets- which again puts us in position to play better opponents and get better, we get exposure for the school and the program, and then we get bowl money and excitement in the fanbase most years. LT never got this. He just saw all of the expenses for going to a bowl and not the bottom line and long term profit. He basically has whored our team out.

I understand that there are growing pains, but these fumbles by our no-talent QB killed us today. No matter how much improvement we've made this year, this season is all but over and it's early October. We should be no worse than 4-2 right now, and could easily be 5-1. Instead, we have lost 3 games in a row that only we could find a way to lose. It's inexcusable to have 13 turnovers in THREE games. Period. That is on "Dan the Man".

Remember - Texas, Baylor, Oklahoma State? In those days, strength of schedule meant something. Quality wins meant more then than it does now.

Today, its all about last week's rankings plus whatever you did this week to your W-L. I know GT was scheduled not that long ago. But the others were. They were scheduled when a decade-long streak of 3-4 win seasons was unthinkable. They were scheduled at a time when 7-8 wins was the expectation and a win over a middle-of-the-pack team from a name brand conference would give us more clout. It made sense at the time.

It doesn't make sense now. Today, nobody cares who you beat.

that cupcake was the way to go when Ole Miss went to a bowl in 1997.

We should have bought out some of the games if we had overscheduled.

But yes, with the bowl tie in, they don't care who you beat. They just care that:

A. You travel well, which we do to bowls.

B. You have six wins.

C. You travel well.

D. Having a game that people will want to watch on TV.

And E. That you travel well.

And honestly, even then I thought it was stupid that we were playing some of those teams like Oklahoma State.

Everyone probably knows my scheduling formula, but I want to post it again anyway.

A. D-I-AA team to open the season with.

B. Alumni road trip game- Memphis, UAB, Tulane.

C. Sun Belt HC special.

D. Service academy.

If the SEC officiating crew went to the CUSA and Big XII with that kind of agenda there would be riots in the streets and changes would be made, but there is no excuse for some of those calls/noncalls. But... we can't turn the ball over and cost ourselves the game

I don't care who the refs were what they called or how 17ing terrible everyone thinks they were, we should have won the 17ing game and once again we find a way to beat ourselves. 17 the refs they dont have the ball in their hands, call the plays, block and tackle, or COMMIT TURNOVERS. Until we stop playing with a loaded gun pointed at our feet we can not win. It is impossible. Damn it im mad.

I sat in the press box for the Vanderbilt game this year and the Alabama game last year, and in both instances, the FMB pep band at those games were louder than the full bands of those schools. Of course loudness isn't everything, but let's not be silly here. The FMB has not been "outplayed" by some other school's pep band. Maybe it seemed that way because of your particular seat, but overall that wasn't the case.
