How is Louisa doing ?

PETA got involved two years ago, so Louisa hasn't had Bubba and friends ever since. Louisa has its best team since the 2010 11-1 team, and are running a new, no-huddle spread/pistol/single wing offense. Filled with juniors and some seniors and sophomores sprinkled about, this year and next year should be special. 260 lb QB, 230 lb fullback, 198 lb tailback. Big offensive and defensive lines with a couple of D1 guys, big receivers and defense.
Sounds good . Salem has been making a lot of mistakes . In the Amherst game that they lost by two points we had defensive issues and lack of execution on offense even though we scored 40. Against Byrd with Two point win the defense improved but the offense had 3 turnovers, Two bad snaps that resulted in Byrd starting deep in Salem territory and five drops by receivers. Amherst and Byrd are very good teams but that being said , they had nothing to do with most of those issues explained . We need to fix ourselves mentally.
Yeah, I watched the full game against Amherst on Gameday Magazine. Salem will be fine, as always. Many of the fans' complaints are unwarranted.
Due respect. There are No offers yet I can find but both Malik Bell and Job Whalen are Juniors. Like Hoos, I'm pretty convinced they will get next level offers.
They have significant measurables and are ballers. I know nothing of grades with these two guys. But they can play and there will be few teams that can take the pounding they will deliver all night and not wear down. When Jerome Bettis runs downhill all night, you have a problem. By the way, his twin brother is next to him in the backfield. Now what? That's what teams have to face this year. Next year too. And trying not to exclude the other TD threat QB Cherry

I wasn't talking about Bell and Whalen. I was talking about both defensive ends, Quinton Ragland and the Spotsy transfer Tony Thurston. Both are close to the same size at 6' 5" 280 lbs and 6' 5" 265 lbs, respectively. VT and others want them both, just want Thurston to get closer to 300 lbs. He's one of, if not the strongest kid on the team, and just a junior. Thurston flung big senior lineman #77 of Sherando, and Dylan Rivers, on the ground like rag dolls. Whalen and Bell will get their offers. Sophomore WR/OLB Brandon Smith at 6' 5" 210 lbs should be D1/D1AA when all is said and done.
Cherry doesn't play QB anymore. He plays slot and FS and caught a TD from Bell on Friday.

6'5" and large. Of course they'll get significant Looks. Next level Coachs don't care how you play. They care if you have the frame. They'll make the rest. Interested and wanting are two different things. Kids get cases of interest. Wanting is an envelope containing a written offer.
A 6'5" WR is significant and desired. But you must have the speed at this position for DI consideration. I have not seen him play nor looked at film for him but with the amount Louisa passes, does it matter? I simply wish him the best and a good season for the Lions.

All offers start with interest. And that 6' 5" WR has a 3.2 GPA and has hit 4.60 in the 40. Louisa will pass more and more as the season goes, they'll continue to improve in that area. If you ever really check us out, you'll see that Bell can sling it when he has time.
How about Louisa's Oline? I know there's a lot of size but tough shoes to fill from last years line
Knew Bell could sling it last year so you're a little late to the party. And I have three sons. I have 4 cases of interest because that's all I decided to keep. BIG, BIG difference.
Lions will practice some passing but Fischer's no fool. Lions will win or lose by pounding the Rock and keeping it secure.
But at 6'5" and 4.6, he'll go next level. I don't care if he can't catch a cold. If he doesn't get offered by Spring, your numbers may not be right. GL to him in any case.
The offensive line is more talented and physical than last year's with Thurston leading the way, just inexperienced with the blocking schemes and improving each week. Last year's line was huge but had weaknesses at TE. We had issues snapping the ball against Sherando, which was much improved against Courtland, with 8 fumbles cut down to 1.
I was inquiring about the offers to congratulate some guys in this area for rising to the next level. I think that is extremely important for high school football not just your team but everyone. Similar to rooting for Denny Hamlin, Verlander, and Hicks my loyalty is with Powhatan but I absolutely pull for those that make it to the elite status and are from around here. Its great for High Schoolers to know that even if you are from a rural town called Mineral or Goochland you can get some notice nationally. Not sure where the childish KISS it comment comes in Shuntclair but I am not surprised by it in the least.
KISS means "Keep It Simple Stupid". You can call it childish if you wish but this is just where you are. It means, in this Louisa scenario, their best bet for a long run is just pound the rock. Nothing fancy.
This does not mean they cannot lose. This is not a strategy that will help you come from behind. The Lion defense will eventually define how far they go. But the offense, from everything I have seen so far this season, cannot be stopped from putting a lot of points on the board.
Shaunty is correct by saying "The Lion defense will eventually define how far they go". Defense/ Special Teams/ then Offenes is the formula for winning Championships!
I would like to weigh in on Louisa. First off I have been involved in high school football as a fan (kid), then a player, and finally a coach for 12 years before I moved on to a higher paying profession. Louisa has State Championship caliber talent. They tried to mix it up against Courtland but they are a power running team. If they wouldn't have thrown the ball early in the game and removed their starters early in the 4th the score could have been 60 to nothing easy on Friday. Louisa's biggest asset is they run a rare offense in a world of spread it out. Most teams will struggle schematically to stop them because of this. You add a big line and 3 excellent Jr. running backs and it is something to be reckoned with. The defense is much better than last year and Quinton Ragland is a monster in the middle along with Tony Thurston Jr. ( his father was a LB for the 97 state Spotsy team and a 98 All State/ All Met performer). The scary thing is I believe Louisa may bee even better next year!
With all this said there is an Achilles heel and it is lack of special teams. 1) They onside kicked every kick off Friday . Courtland's offense is terrible so it didn't matter but if they do this to good teams they will pay for it. 2) they will go for it on 4 down regularly inside there own 30 yd line. Before it is all said and done this will cost them at least 1 game. It cost them a game last year against Albemarle when they went for it 4th and more than 3 at their own 25 (or around that) on the first possession of the game. I just hope they don't lose a play off game this year doing this "Playstation" stuff. I have a lot of respect for coach Fisher but am not sure the logic of Louisa's special teams play. As an observer it looks like special teams simply isn't a priority to them. . A great Hall of fame coach (with 8 State championship rings) used to always say that special teams always have a part in the outcome of a game so be prepared and be as sound as possible on Special Teams

Louisa actually dedicates a day to special teams (or at least one of the Wednesdays I stopped by practice was mostly special teams), but I'm also concerned. We didn't onside kick as much against Sherando and we have a pretty good punter. I'm not sure if we were meaning to onside kick against Courtland or the kicker was just doing a bad job. We can easily kick the ball to the 20, don't understand why we didn't. I'd rather see a good return once by the other team instead of starting at Louisa's 40 every time. I'm sure the staff has a good reason I haven't thought of. I do know that Fischer likes stats and percentages/probabilities and loves to have every chance of keeping the ball more. I agree that against Courtland it didn't matter, but again, against Sherando we kicked it deeper more, and also punted a majority of the time. The first punt was returned for a TD. I think we only went for it on 4th down two or three times. For once, Sherando went for it on 4th down more than Louisa did, who woulda thunk it?

That's what the 2006 and 2010 teams were able to do (defense was the problem against Broad Run). Dinwiddie's current defense appears to be better than Hanover's defense from last year. Our defense is there. Bell is still developing in his role and I think the offense could be extremely potent as long as he keeps improving and the pass blocking improves. I'd love to see at least 10 pass attempts a game like against Courtland.

Yes PETA got involved. We have actually had 5 Lions all 5 have past way through the years. Our Lion " Bubba " have always been rescue Lion. Bubba always came from a children's ministry in Louisa County.-
