How is what Sidney did any worse than Marcell Dareus?

They both accepted improper benefits. The MSU player pays back the amount received and is suspended 1 year and 30% of the next. The Bama player pays back the amount he received and misses 2 games. Am I missing something here other than they are have and we're have not.

ETA: Thanks for catching my case of the dumbass.

which is why his punishment was so harsh (see Dez Bryant). When he actually probably just forgot some of the details of the trip, as it happenedaround 4 years prior.

those guys took all kind of benefits from awealthy Athens, AL "non-bama booster who didn't even know they played football" businessman (food, condo, fishing trip, and I'm sure cash, but wasn't reported) - they were required to repay a couple 100 dollars each to charity, and played every game - ZERO suspension

in all seriousness, how dareus didn't get suspended for the year just blows my mind - nearly 2 grand in benefitsfrom an agent!?!?!?

as for the renardo, it is clear to me that he and his father getting a hotel room from somebody when he was 14, and his dad providing him with an extra set of warm-ups is much more serious of an offense than college student athletes getting paid

but the ncaa cited "mitigating circumstances", and shaved it by 2 games.

funny how mitigating circumstances is in play for Dareus "he was preyed upon by the evil sports agents", but the mitigating circumstance of Renardo not being able to clearly recall the payment arrangements for a single hotel room when he was 14 years old was apparently given ZERO consideration.

I believe the real mitigating circumstance is alabama is alabama, and there is a different set of rules for them.

Didn't Sidney have to repay something like $11,000? Thatsone hell of a hotel room.

I agree with the posters above.Don Jackson and the refusal to cooperate had alot to do with the punishment. Didn't they say that theyear suspension was because of not cooperating and the 30% ofthe next was for the actual infraction?
