because Mitchell killed our catcher last year. I guess he didn't put his forearm up.

And probably a lot longer than that. I don't know what happened last year, but if our catcher got run over with the ball and the runner didn't get ejected, then the umpre blew the call.

********..it is a high tag, and he was protecting his face by instinct.
If he was going to run him over..he would of run him over.

Interesting question and i dont know the answer.
Is it an auto-out or just ejection?
Say the game is on the line. and your at 3rd with a sac fly..can you truck him and knock him lose
to score the run and be ejected..or is it an auto-out too?

she threw a much better forearm than that and would have run over that catcher. Serioulsly, I didn't think he should have been tossed for that it was pretty harmless. Congrats to the Eagles they did not give up when it looked really bad for them, happy for Corky.

The play would stand as called (out or safe) and the ejection is automatic. The general rule is outs are made on the field not in the rulebook. And yes the reason he was ejected is because of the elevated forearm, although the reason is actually irrelevant, as any time an umpire sees this, it is called.

it was a ******** call by the ump in this case, his arm was protecting from the high tag.
he can use his discretion in this matter..no way was he trying to run the catcher over or do him harm.

The official made a mistake.

His second mistake was not tossing the catcher for taunting.

before his high school days at Clinton, and from knowing both of them, I can tell you that his dad was the guy that would teach you to tackle the catcher. Win by any means possible was an understatement for him, even in little league ball. Regardless, I thought it was a ******** call, and really wanted somebody to knock that catcher out. It worked out fine, though, when he struck out on four pitches the very next inning and then lost the game.

I watched the replay a thousand times. I know the rule and the rule is too circumstantial. This guy was way to the side of the catcher and would have never thrown has arm up had the catcher not tried to tag his face. It sucked for the guy

That pic is well after the play. I had it on TiVo and watched it about 50 times. The USM player caught the Florida player under the jaw with his elbow. The catcher's mask jerked up and to the right as the elbow came in. You might not like the rule, but the Florida guy got jacked in the jaw.

he's 5 feet up the line. That's a stupid 17'n rule. I can understand if he has the plate blocked but if you are that far up the line on a bang bang play, you should be able to do whatever is necessary to get to the plate.

If the pic is so late, then why is the catchers mask still on perfectly? Also he has one of the new masks that has the long throat area to keep the ball from coming up and getting you in the throat. If it was knocked up as you say, it seems like you would see that area around his chin not properly positioned at his throat.
