Landed my dream job in December, just wondering the longevity of others on the board.

2.5 years, job and profession (5.5 if you count school, which you shouldn't). Switched careers in my early 30s.

About 33 years total in software development and database work. Only 3.5 years with my current employer. Was with my last employer for 17 years.

GD I'm getting old (55). If free will existed, I'd probably have married a rich ***** and skipped all this ****.

Maybe not, but I can't change the laws of physics.

No, but you can change your expectations and standards.

Get down to Florida. I'm sure there are plenty of eligible ladies in the 75+ crowd rolling in dough and looking for a boy toy.

Thanks for the tip. I could also stick my dick in a meat grinder and become a lazy circus freak, but I think I'll pass.

Damn. I don't know how some of you all do it. I understand having to support the family and survive but working for the same company 15-30 years would make me lose my mind.

23 years in the profession.

5 years with current employer
10 years with the previous one.
8 with the initial company I started out in the profession with.

Thought I was taking a pay cut for about 20 hours per week less hours worked and every other Saturday off. Was willing to do that for my sanity (average week at previous job was 60-65 hours), and to see my wife and kids some, they where growing up so quick and I was at work way too much. I was wrong, I have actually made more at the new job other than the 1st year, then my best year at the other job.

Was the best decision I ever made, lot less stress, less hours, every other weekend off, more money. Actually only work about roughly 45 hours a week, no Sundays or holidays (Christmas, Thanksgiving, Memorial Day, Labor Day, 4th, New years). Have 14 vacation days and 7 sick days.

Currently on my second go-round at the company I work for. Did 6 years (87 thru 92) first time. Just passed 14 years (01 thru today) this stretch. So 20, combined.

3 years with my current company. I interviewed with the VA last week and hopefully I'll be there for the next 20+ years.
