The other thing is how good the computer is. I learned a lesson about laptop quality, namely why you see laptops selling for as low as $299 while others are as high as $899. Beyond the computer performance criteria we look for (speed, HD space, etc), there is a difference in part quality/construction and I bet that includes batteries.

My wife had a ~$300 laptop from best Buy and it sucked. Geek squad dude then walked me over to the display area and explained the ins and outs of the whole PC sales game, showing that wall of cheap computers is far inferior in quality to the the pricier models. Moral of the story....price is more than speed and hard drive space.

General tip on devices, manuals, etc. Type a model or serial number in a good search bar and BAM, sometimes it will take you where you want to go or at least point the way. Also, it can be interesting seeing what appears as you begin typing the numbers.

You do get what you pay for nowadays.

Two things ... use Chrome for your browser.
Second, you can get a battery easily on Amazon. I just replaced my laptop battery in the last 6 months or so. The laptop is nearing 7 years old and the battery got to where it wouldn't last an hour either, just like yours is doing now.

I do all my PC parts shopping on NewEgg. I've built a couple of gaming rigs from scratch after I realized for the price of an Alienware, I could build the exact same thing using the exact same parts, for 2/3rds the price. You would be surprised how easy it is to build a PC after knowing Jack and **** about them other than having "uber l33t micro" skills.

The only thing I use anymore is my tablet which is an iPad 3 for anything I have to do at home. I bought a USB keyboard for it and a dongle adapter to hook it up to my Dual monitor display in my home office. Honestly, if you are looking to refresh your hardware, go the tablet route. It's way more convenient.

I've built a number of PC's that way through the years.

Can't argue against your tablet solution these days though. That's definitely the way to go. I'm still holding on to my laptop, but will be looking to get a tablet before too long.
