one year, big splash, gone. If he plays well enough to leave after a year, it will be a very good year for MSU basketball.

This deal is set in stone.
How in the world have we, as MSU fans, not learned our lesson when it comes to "saviors" arriving to save ANY MSU athletic program? If he lives up to his billing, then yes he is gone after a year. In order for that to happen he has to first: get to campus, make good enough grades to play, not get hurt, not be a prima dona, play well with others, not get kicked out of school, ACTUALLY BE AS GOOD AS ADVERTISED ... I mean seriously, its barely May. Signing a guy of this caliber is amazing. We have done it before though. Getting him on campus will be that much more amazing. None of you MFers have seen the guy play though (by this I mean against big, scary SEC caliber athletes, not high school 17ups). Being a McDonald's All-American is badass and all, but I seem to remember Scotty Hopson going to UT so that he could be "one and done". Good to see that worked out the way his cocky *** thought it would.

I know it seems like I'm trying to piss on the fire. Trust me I'm ecstatic about his signing. This is a big step in the right direction. This is also a good poll question. Who besides McGrady, Kobe, et al have been all that ready for the NBA when that young anyway? If he's not a complete dubmass, 2 years of learning how to not be a ****** playing post in the SEC will help him more than one and done will anyway. Then again if he comes in and is the next Greg Oden (so to speak), then by all means he should definitely move on.

but if he does not make a big splash, 2 years is possible. But it wouldn't shock me if he never makes it on campus. Knowing our luck he will decide to go to Europe or is ruled ineligible for some reason.

Mark Gottfried isn't around anymore. I mean, who would want to go to MSU to play basketball over Bama? We MUST have been cheating.

Gottfried is a piece of trash.

Some are taking it, (BJ Mullens) some aren't (Greg Monroe).

The thinking is that if you don't come out after your freshman year, you are admitting that you aren't NBA ready, and then NBA teams have more time to scrutinize your game.

Mullens was coming off the bench for OSU, but since he was a consensus Top 10 player in high school he is coming out, and will be a first round pick by someone. Greg Monroe would have been a first round pick if he had come out, but he decided to come back, and he better improve, because if he doesn't his draft stock will continue to go down. Going into the season he was a guaranteed lottery pick, at the end of the season he was just a first round pick.a

Its a gamble for these prep kids to stay in school more than one season. Saying all that, I doubt Sidney stays more than one year. His parents have been wanting him to go pro since he was a Sophmore in high school. They are ready to get paid, and not just 20K from Reebok.

Who is dishing out this supposed advice?

Apparently Brewer, Horford, Noah, Monroe, Thabeet, GRIFFIN, Brackins, Curry, Hibbert, Ed Davis, Aldrich, etc etc etc.

There are friggin dozens of players that chose to return to school, even though they would have been drafted. Some that i listed above werent freshmen when they would have been drafted, but the comment of 'they knew they werent NBA material' would still apply to them since they decided to stay in college.

Thats total ********. Come on, just look at Griffin. Would have been a lottery pick last season as a freshman, but knew he had to improve to actually be useful and sustain an NBA career, and he did just that.

It is hardly a gamble for them to stay more than 1 season. The NBA just wants good players, whether you come to them as a potential or a polished player, they just want good ones...and if it takes 2 seasons for a player to be draftable, the NBA doesnt give a ****, they will draft you then.

Speaking of, i hear the NBA will address the 1 year rule once the next CBA comes up. The NBA apparently wants to extend it to 2 years. You know what that will give them?...more time to evaluate players and to allow players to actually develop before being drafted...which is exactly what some elite prep players have chosen to do on their own.
