Assuming we do hire Payne, I'm curious to see how former NBA players have done as head coaches.

The first two players that come to my mind have been train wrecks as coaches and they are Clyde Drexler at Houston which was a disaster, and Isiah Thomas at Florida International who is 26-65 in 3 years there. Corliss Williamson was 8-21 this year at Central Arkansas. Kyle Macy wasn't very good At Morehead state going 4-23 his final year of coaching.

Rex Walters has been mediocre at San Francisco.

Fred Hoiberg has been successful at Iowa State, made the Tourney this year. Bryce Drew is an up and comer at

Any other former NBA players who have been head college coaches you guys can think of?

Didn't know Donovan ever made an NBA roster.

He always seemed very young as Petino's ast at UK

Steve Alford is another successful coach who is a former NBA player.

Billy Donovon and John Thompson both had a cup of coffee in the league - much like Payne.

Most NBA players that get into coaching stay in the NBA.

It would seem more NBA guys would want to coach college.
Probably because they don't have to put up with all of the ******** the college game brings with it. <div>
</div><div>You see guys like Patrick Ewing on the bench and you know he is there to work with post players.</div><div>
</div><div>Calipari has adopted that approach at UK. Payne has worked wonders with Harrelson and Davis, Stricklin with Wall, Knight and Teague.</div>
