Just wondering how many guys like Fox from smaller conferences have actually done well in the SEC over the years. Seems like alot of the hot coaches of the moment have flamed out in the SEC. Felton, Heath, and that Oneal guy for UT come to mind.
Tubby Smith (Tulsa before UGA and UK), Pearl (don't remember the school), Trent Johnson (I know he was at Stanford for a few years after Nevada), verdict still out on Pelphrey. I'm sure there are other examples on either side.
Billy Donovan -- Marshall, Rick Pitino -- Boston U, Providence, there are going to be tons of successful and unsuccessful SEC coaches who coached somewhere smaller before. That's the way coaching usually works.
Pearl was the head coach of the Wisconsin at Green Bay school that went to the Sweet 16 I think back in 03. Lebo saw a little success here this year and he is from UT Chattanooga. Vandy coach Kevin Stallings was at Illinois St. before he came to Vandy. Im pretty sure that in the history of the SEC, most of the coaches that come to our schools are from mid majors or lower BCS teams. Besides Kentucky, we really dont have the big name coaching carousel that some of the other conferences do.
Three that come to mind:
Dave Odom from Wake Forest to USC.
Bob Boyd from being retired from Southern Cal to MSU.
Norm Sloan coached at Florida, went to NC State where he won a national championship before going back to Florida.
