I remember hearing 22, and that was after Alston left. We can over sign by 3 so at most we can sign 25 players correct?

Let's say we only sign 5 more to get to 22... Who do you think we finish with?

My guess...

Curl
Onyemaobi
Calvin
Daniels
Rafdal

We over sign if any 3 of the following want to commit

Lewis
Lenoir
Blades
Johnson
Slade

I'd love to hear what others think

I know there was a thread back in December that talked about 18? seniors leaving and then losing Grim and a couple others got the number to 21 of I recall correctly. Then add Alston makes it 22, so I think you are correct on that number.

So if they oversign by 3, how does that work?

Do we have to cut loose 3 players by fall camp to get down to 85 for fall semester?

Well if Reimers just got a scholarship, that lowers our total scholarships to give from 22 back to 21 (replaces Alston's scholarship I am guessing).

So are these scholarships available because some of the seniors are not finishing school this spring and moving on towards the NFL?

Or did some of the seniors graduate in December?

Or did they kick some seniors off of scholarship just to give some Walk-Ons a scholarship (highly doubt it)?

I didn't think you could use a scholarship twice in the same school year. Why did they let the Grim scholarship sit unused for the fall if it could have been given to someone else? Maybe it's just the semester.

That would be my guess.

Has any Husker coach ever given a walk-on a spring-only scholarship before?

So the Herald has updated the scholarship numbers. They show the 5 early enrollees + 17 more spots to 85. That takes us to 22 for this recruiting cycle. Add in any others that will be leaving with eligibility on the table.

Makes you think next year's class will be reeeeeally small with only 13 seniors BEFORE there are any losses before fall camp.

Damon Benning was tweeting back and forth with Schaefer last night, he said he could get to 15.

Schaefer said something about our class being 1/5 full (basically 1/4 full with one more commit).

I know the 2018 class can only have 16 right now. 13 seniors +3, but I would be shocked if there wasn't some additional attrition, especially with a changing defensive philosophy. I bet we end up with a class of around 20 next year.

I am excited to see what this staff can do with a small class. I would imagine there are some big fish to land.

Confirmation on the number of scholarships available and number the staff plans to use:

" Devaney said 22 signees is a target number in this recruiting class, but that figure is “fluid.” NU could take a few more than that if the right guys want in. "
